Kikuyu Wikipedia over 1000 articles (Don Osborn)

Hi Don, 1,000 is an accomplishment, thus congrats! Wikistatistics (https://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/SummaryKI.htm) only show non regular activities, large intervals, could not identify a consistent active contributor - maybe he (usually he!) is mostly anonymus and/or has too many intervals. The statistics on this wiki is not very much up to date (often the case with very small wikis) but still gives a fair picture. Cheers Ingo Today's Topics: 1. Dear All We would like YOU to decide on the next theme for Wiki Loves Africa - 2016!! We have created a page where you can add a theme that you are excited about, or add your comments, concerns or support to the themes that others have suggested over the course of the whole Wiki Loves Africa contest. You have until the 15th May to add your theme. On the 16th May the voting will open on the themes. Please note - you cannot yet vote. You can only add your favourite theme for discussion: Remember to choose a theme so it fits to the guidelines. The theme must: • Be capable of adding encyclopaedic knowledge about Africa, its peoples and cultures; • Be universal (everyone does it, wherever they are in the world), but locally relevant (it is done differently by different groups around the world); • Avoid themes already dealt with by other contests. African World Heritage Day project

Hi all Today is African World Heritage Day, I have set up a page to help encourage people to write about African World Heritage Sites here: <http://goog_78778001/> https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiProject_UNESCO/African_World_Heritage_D… If you would like to help or be involved here are some suggestions, any improvements you can think of would be very much appreciated. - Share it on social media and Wikimedia projects - Suggest some more languages to add to the list (I'm working on making a better tool for next time where people can just choose any language) - Set up translation tags for the page so it can be translated into other languages (they are beyond me). - Write some articles Thanks John

Hi John, appreciate your initiative and welcome it! * As for languages- not so sure about UN-languages but some African languages should be in it - the 2 most relevant presently being Afrikaans and Kiswahili (statistically strong are also Malegache and Yoruba, lets see if they can participate?) If you add more languages the table gets difficult to handle, too wide. Reorganize it any way. I will add some for sure in swwiki. Cheers Kipala

Presently on swwiki we have these 20 African Heritage Sites: Axum, Djemila, Gorée, Harar, Hifadhi ya Mlima Kilimanjaro, Hifadhi ya Serengeti, Karthago, Kasubi, Kilwa Kisiwani, Kurene, Lamu, Michoro ya Kondoa, Mji Mkongwe, Msumbiji (kisiwa), Ngorongoro, Piramidi za Giza, Selous, Timbuktu, Tunis, Victoria Falls You find them either under Jamii: Mahali pa Urithi wa Dunia katika Afrika or Jamii: Mahali pa Urithi wa Dunia katika Tanzania‎. Hi all I have met a few of you over Skype and in person before at Wikimedia events, I'm currently working at UNESCO. May 5th is African World Heritage Day and I was thinking about running a small online campaign for it. http://whc.unesco.org/en/news/1364/ I have an idea and would like to know what you thought and how it could be improved upon. I would like to encourage editors in many languages to write Wikipedia and Wikivoyage articles about the World Heritage sites in Africa through social media and also on Wikipedia and Wikivoyage. I want to make this as multilingual as possible so I've used dynamic Wikidata Lists to create this table which shows which articles are available in which language. I think its a really nice way to create a project 'hit list' using Wikidata. https://tools.wmflabs.org/listeria/dynamic.html?#list=148 There are a few Wikidata items down the bottom of the list that are blank or with very few articles, I need to fix this, they're duplicate items so don't point to any articles or only one or two.
