You may know about WikiSym -- the international symposium on wikis and open collaboration -- which is an annual research conference about wikis. It is being held week after next in Mountain View, CA this year. There is always a good deal of Wikipedia research presented at WikiSym. This year I am very pleased that the best paper award (for both short and long papers) went to two papers about gender and Wikipedia:
