Thanks Samuel!
Does someone know about data usage on prepaid cards in Poland? I am interested in getting a prepaid card in Poland for my smartphone to do both calls and sending/receiving mails.

You can get a "PLAY" sim card at any small market. (put it in your phone, get on the PLAY network, wait until you get a confirmation by SMS in a few minutes.)
There's no charge, you simply pay for credit. you can get a 5 or 15 zl card anywhere, and add credit online. SMS'es are 0.5 zl each . I haven't yet tested what calls cost.

Great
where do you got it? How much? and is it complicated to get one?
If others are getting local numbers, you may want to do the same. Also, people organizing their own pub crawls and meals early this week, please post a note about what you're doing online... http://wikimania2010.wikimedia.org/wiki/Events

There are also prepaid cards for mobile internet: Play: http://www.playmobile.pl/pl/internet/oferta-na-karte/index.html starter for 19zl gives you 1GB of transfer then you can buy 2GB for 30zl or 4GB for 50zl
iPlus: http://www.iplus.pl/indywidualni-promocje-iplus-na-karte.html starter 20zl, price 0,30zl per 1MB
Era blueconnect: http://www.era.pl/pl/indywidualni/taryfy/internet/blueconnect_komputer/bc_st... Starter 25zl, 0,03zl/100kB
Orange: http://www.orange.pl/portal/map/map/internet_free_pre_discover?TARGET=INTERN... 0,01zl/100kB then: 5zl = 200MB 10zl = 248MB 25zl = 1.25GB 50zl = 2.75GB 100zl = 7GB
You can buy starters and upgrades in providers shops or kiosks

Thanks a lot Masti!
I have evaluated the websites as good as I can without speaking polish and as far as I understand the Orange "Free na karte" is what I want:
It can be used for both phone calls and internet and has a resonable price. I just have to decide if the 25 zl is enough, but I guess I take the 50 zl one.

Hi,
Thanks for that info. Is there any microSIM available for iPhone4? As far as I read http://www.thenews.pl/business/artykul133182_iphone-4-in-poland-from-septemb... I guess I cannot get it. (I know roaming service is available, though.)

AFAIR all GSM proviers offer miniSIM. Haven't seen microSIMs in Poland yet.

FWIW, some people cut SIMs into microSIMs; you'll find templates to print onto A4 paper (not sure about letter), for instance here's a PDF I get from following a trail from the en:microSIM article: http://www.buy-microsim.com/pub/How%20to%20make%20MicroSIM%20-%20EN.pdf

Thanks, Jodi. I intended to try to do that... but I (unfortunately) remembered that iPhone4 is SIM-locked. Tooooo bad.
