First, I'd like to join the "thank you, Hong Kong"-choir, although it could as well be "thank you, everybody".
That done, there are some things I'd really, really like to see on next wikiconferences, wherever or whichever they'd be.
More reliable WiFi. Wikimedians are the kind of people that need more than 1 (and quite possibly more than 2) connections per people, at least one of them high-quality. I know it's not easy, but we also can't say this problem would have ever been a great surprise for anyone.
More electric sockets everyone, especially in the lecture halls. If there is nothing else, we could buy and install extension cords in bulk. I don't know about your computers, but mine kinda likes electricity. And its battery won't work eight hours in a row. Probably there are others like me. I mean, who edits Wikipedia on an abacus?
Less littering. This is a wish not for the organizers but to the participants. Most of us are perfectly able of picking up litter, even if it is not theirs. For heaven's sake, use this ability!
Otherwise, bye and thanks for all the fish.

Very much agreed.

I would add, "make the person's name on their badge bigger". It's a simple thing, but it helps when meeting people.

A few further suggestions (though yes, I was generally pleased) * Make sure enough food is prepared * If the only music at a venue will be electronic... whatever that was... perhaps give a heads up * Try to include usernames on name tags a bit more regularly; a lot of people were writing theirs in.

That's a request to the attendees rather than the organisers :)
Also, because some people have longer names and usernames than others, the font size on badges were already as big as we could make with printed names. Would it be more preferable if Wikimania London reverted to handwritten badges only?

Hi Raul,
Good points.

Adding to that: More food and better management about expectations. If I would have known the beach party wouldn't have enough food and the only food the have was deep fried junk food, I would have gone out for dinner early and join the beach party a bit later. Insisting that more food is coming and than coming up with small bowls of deepfried crap wasn't useful at all.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about the beach party, as I was having a wonderful dinner with friends.
On another note, the welcoming party at Sky100 was nice and the view was truly impressive. Too bad I missed the food there, too. By 20.45 the queu was still a mile long and I was very tried, so I rolled up in a corner and slept for half an hour. When I woke up, the lights were shining, all was cleaned up and people were starting to leave. So, a general warning: don't behave like I did. Not that I'd been particularly unhappy, I needed that sleep more than food. :)
Maybe next time we could have a little area on the venue ground where jetlagged people could have a daily nap in Wikibeds. Wiki Loves Sleep or something.

Ouch. (Almost certainly the worst insult to Hong Kong food culture I've heard from a Wikimedian.)

Indeed - a lot of HK food is deep-fried. I myself tend to avoid it for that reason - although my wife thrives on it! All these ideas are ones that we'd really like put down somewhere, though, I'd urge you to all edit the page at http://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Brainstorming.

Just a question, as I'm used to that from other events: will there be a feedback form or something? Especially as we're talking a lot about Lessons Learnt and evaluation stuff in the movement it would be important to have, I think. We just can improve further Wikimanias by giving input - in my opinion.

The page Richard linked to would be a good place for that - it's your chance to tell us what you think could be better next year. There'll always be something that can be improved, but as each team does its best to learn from its predecessors, hopefully it becomes more enjoyable for everyone. Harry Mitchell

Hi!
I agree on food management, the queues were insanely long, esp. at the beach and after half an hour of queuing, we learnt there was no food left, so we went to a nearby restaurant... the venue was too tiny for so many people. If i can have a request for London, I would say, please make sure people don't have to queue for food for hours.
Otherwise everything was done well, some minor things came up, like some popular seminars had tiny lecture rooms, while other less popular ones were put in large auditoriums. Perhaps a poll on attendance could be done next time. People indicated interest on the wiki page, but it looks like this was not considered.
The dorm was good, despite being far from the nearest mtr. The volunteers were very friebdky and helpful, thank you guys once again.
Overall, I had a good time at my first wikimania,
Kind regards Teemeah
