just for the record: every year, the logo and thematic layout of the
conference is changed.
Wikimania Hong Kong and DC, I wasn't present in person, but only saw the official Wikimania logo used. The banners have different styles representing the place of event and culture, but the logo remained.
I'm not against the London logo. I personally think it looks much nicer than the official one. Frankly, the official one looks like errrm...
Waiting to see what design Mexico brings on board next year.
I just felt the official logo has been sidetracked in the London event. If the Wikimania global team finds the sidetrack of the official logo fun and acceptable, then I guess I'm also good. Just wondering before when there'll be 50 derivatives and the original gets lost in the dust.
I remember Buenos Aires gave a latin sauce on it and hong kong had more an
asian thing (albeit less than taiwan).
The concepts are the same, the way it's worked out differs. Nothing
special here :) Some will like it, some will not.
Best, Lodewijk

You clearly haven't seen the Wikivoyage logo... ;)
I think it's cool that there was an effort to make this conference look
a bit different to those before it. It is the tenth one, after all. It'll be interesting to see if Mexico does similar.

Personally, I hated it - to the extent that I skipped getting the
T-shirt and bag. It just looked completely non-Wikimedian - far too many angles rather than curves, especially with the 'framework' version...
Thanks, Mike

Yeah - the organisers had a designer in to get everything revamped
for this year. I think branding-wise he did an astonishingly good job keeping everything consistent - this includes the WikiProject leaflets, the shirts, posters, main stage slide branding, YouTube pre-rolls... just great. Kudos.

I couldn't spot the use of the official Wikimania logo in any part

As far as I know, this is the official Wikimedia foundation
copyrighted logo for Wikimania: https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimania_logo_with_text.svg
Didn't see any bit of this logo totally anywhere whatsoever!
Any rationale behind?
The logo used (or I saw) throughout this year's event is this:
