Honestly, I am a bit confused by the organization of the pre-conference this year. Recent Wikimanias allowed users to choose *on site* what to attend, be it Hackathon sessions, WMCON Follow-up days, or other workshops as long as there was still free space. Please help me understand why we need to register for pre-conference workshops for the first time. Thank you very much in advance! :-)
We are asking people to register in advance so that we have some idea for how many people we can accommodate in the meeting rooms and set up of that room . We also need to get an idea of how many people will be needing lunch.
As always if people want to switch around when they get there we are very flexible about this. However, I don't think we want to publicize that too widely. It might be seen as yet another reason for people not having to register.
