1. Wikimania registration starts
The registration is open for Wikimania 2007 now, and it will be ended in
July 30, 2007. In this year Wikimania will be held from August 3-5, 2007 in
Taipei, Taiwan at Chien Tan Overseas Youth Activity Center. You are also
welcomed to register for the Hacking Days Extra and Citizen Journalism
Unconference, which will be held in August 2, 2007 at the same place. For

The Wikimedia Foundation is also offering a limited number of scholarships
to help attendees defray part of the costs of attending Wikimania 2007.
Applications must be received as soon as possible, but no later than April
1, 2007, and they will be reviewed by the Wikimania 2007 Scholarship

2. Call for Participation
We are accepting submissions for posters, presentations, workshops, and
discussion groups. We are also accepting nominations for speakers and
speaker panels, and suggestions for other activities. The submission should
not be later than April 30, 2007 and should address one or more of the
following themes: Wikimedia Communities, Free Content and Technical
infrastructure. Your topic must be related to Wikimedia projects and its
communities or to the creation of free content in general. For information

3. Volunteer rights
The organization team would like to remind volunteers to record their
working hours on Translating, Website Content Building, WikiReader and
Coordination. If the working hours are more than 50 hours then volunteers
can attend Wikimania for free from August 3 to 5, 2007 (however, you still
need to pay for accommodation and foods). Please report your working hours

4. Wikimedia Academy Tour in Taiwan
The tour is held to let Taiwanese people know what is Wikimedia and its
projects and how to enrich the Chinese content in the projects; through the
participation in the projects, they can improve their communication skills
with participants from all over the world so they can become Wikimania

5. WikiReader editing begins
The editing for WikiReader on Wikimania 2007 now also begins and is planned
to be delivered to the attendees when Wikimania is been held in August 3-5,
2007.
6. Interview with Business Next Bi-Weekly
A Taiwanese IT media, Business Next Bi-Weekly <http://www.bnext.com.tw>, has
interviewed the organization team on the organization process of Wikimania
last Saturday (March 16, 2007). We will keep you informed when the article
is been published.
7. Distribution of this Bulletin and feedback
Everyone is welcomed to reproduce and distribute this bulletin to their
websites, mailing lists, BBS, blogs, and so on, but please kindly include

Hello,
I asked a Japanese editor if he could register himself now without
passport number. He hasn't got his passport and planned to get it
later (till the conference, of course). I replied him it might be okay
if he would be able to provide the number required (so I understood
from the discussion on this mailing list). Is it okay?
If it is okay, I think we could note that to encourage people to make
early registration on [[Registration]] or FAQ (we have a FAQ btw?).

Hello,
I wrote here a sponsorship letter, largely based on the one wrote last
year. I tried to tweak it to fit this year situation.
Please have a look at it and comment. I changed the amounts of
sponsorship according to values I found on the wikimania site. There may
be some mistakes left and possibly language to improve :-)
Please give a feedback.
Once we are happy with the letter, can you Pyb and Schiste, help with
sending them to the various names you came up with ?
One thing I still need to know is which specific events we can still
propose for sponsorship.
Is someone specifically covering
* the breakfasts
* the lunches
* the big party
* the sponsor party
* the hacking days
* the citizen unconference
* the wikireaders
* the awards (some already covered)
* the scholarship (aside from CHT)
* or whatever else we could sell...
I know that I already got partial answers for this.

If you had attended to past Hacking Days, especially the private one for
MediaWiki core developers, could you please tell me that did they charge for
any fee or not? Thank you!

Just a quick note... the Wikimania main page has been redesigned:

It now highlights three important things, registration, scholarships
and the call for participation, all of which are now open. Don't wait
to submit your presentations, apply for a scholarship, and register
for the conference!
* Registration fees will go up for accommodation after Apr. 15, 2007
* The deadline for scholarships is April 1, 2007
* Presentations, panels, posters and workshops may be submitted until
Apr. 30, 2007
Also, please help distribute this information about Wikimania to your
local communities.

And I would like to say thanks to both of you, Guillom and bastique. I just need sometime to learn how to handle OTRS messages. :P
I have informed the Wikimania organization team that I already have an OTRS account and they have acknowledged that. However I still think it's good for daucter to have an OTRS account because he is the registration manager for Wikimania. I will ask daucter to leave his apply info on meta and send a mail to bastique to speed up the procedure.

Last time I asked for an account for htchien, bastique told me on IRC to leave the request on meta to keep a trace. Once the request is posted there, yes, IRC is what I called the « accelerated procedure ».

We've tested for the registration system and fixed some bugs and problems.
Finally, it can work now.
However, Phobe and some friends have talked about the OTRS system they used
for QA last year. So after a short discuss, we do need the e-mail acount "
wikimaina-registration(a)wikimedia.org" for registration QA.
And because it's already deleyed on the schedule. we hope we can open the
registration system as soon as possible. So we do need someone can help us
create or open the authority of this e-mail account. (or other account) And
after we have this account we can open the reigstration system immediately.

Actually, he can email me with his name, email address and username. I'll
respond with a password.
Note, I have just set the email addresses for wikimania-press and
wikimania-registration to automatically fall into those queues.
