Hi Lodewijk,
I like the idea of having more opportunities to talk and to try out
different approaches.
That was the reason for Patricio and me to offer a Chapters Lunch Meeting
on Sunday, where we want to talk about the role of Chapters Selected Board
members, expectations, limitations, and the relationship we have. I read
your suggestion like something similar, concentrating more on particular
issues and diving somehow deeper into the subject. And yes, I would be glad
to participate if it matches with my schedule.
Alice.

Dear all,
Just in case you haven't noticed, the schedule of Wikimania 2013 has been
overhauled (mostly formatting, but also a few swaps) about two weeks ago.
https://wikimania2013.wikimedia.org/wiki/Schedule
Also, the conference booklets have already been sent to print. Hooray!
However, last-minute changes (it's meant to be a wiki, isn't it) meant that
the paper schedule has already become outdated in certain places! So trust
the wiki in case of discrepancies. Hooray!

Hi all,
Every year at Wikimania the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees hosts a
panel where they take questions from the audience on the work of the WMF
and the Board.
In past years the board has also taken questions via IRC. This year we'd
also like to provide the opportunity to leave questions on a wiki page
ahead of time:
http://wikimania2013.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMF_Board_Q%26A
While there is only time to answer a few questions during the session
itself, hopefully this will be a good way of getting questions from
attendees as well as from those who can't make it. The board will also take
questions from the audience at Wikimania, as time permits.
Remember the Board doesn't deal directly with work on or problems on the
projects, and does not have a direct hand in how the WMF operates
day-to-day. Rather, the board thinks about the big picture, and gives
direction on strategy for the WMF. You can find out more about what the
board does (and does not do) here:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Board_of_Trustees and

Hi,
About two weeks ago I released Miga, a Javascript application that enables
the easy creation of data-based web apps: users just have to provide the
data as one or more CSV files, and define the data schema and settings with
a few other files, and the software takes care of the rest. You can see its
website here:
http://migadv.com/
The reason I mention it is that one of the demo apps I created for the
software is an app that shows schedule information for Wikimania 2013:
http://migadv.com/miga/?wm2013
It's based entirely on information from the Wikimania 2013 wiki, and holds
data on talks, sessions and speakers.
This web app works offline, after it's initially downloaded to the computer
or device. And it can even function as a mobile app of sorts - on both iOS
and Android devices, you can save a shortcut to the URL as on icon on the
screen, that can be opened in the same way as a mobile app. (On iOS the
process is simpler - just select "Add to home screen" in the browser -
while for Android it's a two-step process, of first creating a bookmark for
that URL and then creating an icon for that bookmark from the screen
itself.) I even created a special icon for the Wikimania 2013 app, so if
you save it to the screen it really does look like a mobile app; I'd
recommend you try it out, if you have an iOS or Android device - it's
pretty neat.
The app doesn't work on the Firefox and IE browsers, due to those browsers'
lack of support for the Web SQL Database protocol. Whether that's a big
issue or not is a matter of opinion, I suppose.
In any case, I hope all of you find it an interesting resource.

People who are the subject of Wikipedia article are invited to record
short samples of their spoken voice, to illustrate the articles about
them, so that we know what they sound like; and how they pronounce
their names:

Multilingual subjects can contribute in each language they speak.
Existing contributions and a suggested script can be heard at:

Who do you know, who could be asked to contribute? Likely subjects
include politicians (your representative perhaps), sports people,
musicians, actors, authors, scientists, businesspeople... the list is
virtually endless.

Hi,
We (Legoktm and me) are pywikibot (PWB) developers we just put
"Pywikipediabot" section in the brainstorming page for DevCamp [1] As
you probably know PWB just migrated to the Git [2] and we are pushing
people to use rewrite branch instead of the old "trunk" branch and we
will be glad to have more people to help us in developing codes and
maybe there are so many people in Wikimania who are interested in
running bots but they can't run because they don't know
We can use this opportunity to show people wonders of PWB in two
sessions: 1-Running a bot 2-Hacking codes of PWB
So what do you think?

Hello Wikimaniacs,
I hope you're excited about coming to Hong Kong! Online registration for
Wikimania 2013 is scheduled to close on the evening of 31 July so that we
can prepare everyone's badges on time. If you haven't yet registered,
please go to https://registration.wikimedia.hk/ to complete your
registration and payment now!

Dear Wikimaniacs,
Ellie Young is offering to host a dinner meeting Friday, August 9,
from 7-9 pm, to talk about the future of Wikimania, following up on
the panel discussion earlier that day on Deror's panel. Notes from
this discussion will be added to those from the panel.
http://wikimania2013.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/The_Growth_and_Future_o…
If you are regularly part of Wikimania planning, or part of a past org
team, and would be interested in this - please reply to Ellie (cc:ed
here) and let her know, and include a few words about what part of
Wikimania you've been involved with. Space is limited to 15 people; if
there is more interest than that, preference will be given to
perennial volunteers and past organizers.
Thanks!
Sam.

Three years ago, Jeromy and I got kicked out from the Wikimania dorms at
Danzig a day earlier than what we thought our booking covered.
So it is with a lot of irony and embarrassment that we find ourselves
causing such confusion with our booking forms. While processing dormitory
applications, we realized that the application form mistakenly left the
night of 12 August as an option, even though dormitory accommodation is not
available on that day. The accommodation details on the Wikimania 2013 wiki
and other parts of the registration system are correct.
The erroneous option has since been removed. Those who are affected by this
bug have been contacted off-list. Alternative accommodation is being
arranged for the minority of affected attendees who stated that they need
accommodation on the night of 12 August.
