I guess inspired by AddShore's gorgeous maps he has posted to Twitter, I thought it might be a great way to do data visualization of the different geographic locations the NYC chapter is assisting with editathons, as we sometimes do events in the tri-state area as well as remotely. It seems like it's just data, and that Wikidata is ideally a repository for the semantic information on Wikipedia pages, unless I am completely misunderstanding the purpose of Wikidata? So why not add any data that is consistently available. I have been trying to normalize and systematize our event pages -- and use that information to present metrics as well as information in support of our new Annual Plan Grant. For instance, we use infoboxes very consistently, as well as typical Event information sections. The metrics interface we are using doesn't capture that data, which could be valuable -- or just another way for Wikidata to be used? I am coming from the Wikipedia editor perspective, obviously, so this is probably very strange to most Wikidatans. Maybe it is also pointless. I am trying to use Wikidata more. I am very frustrated by it, frankly. #whinge I can see that Art+Feminism as well as a bunch of other chapters in Asia are doing Wikidata pages for their event pages. I've started to investigate.
