Hello,
I'm interested in installations of Wikibase (the software behind Wikidata) that are used outside Wikimedia projects. While we have already collected some, we are interested in getting to know more of them.
Do you run an installation? Do you know of installations of Wikibase "in the wild"?
Comments and links are much appreciated!
Cheers, Jens
Hi Jens,
I deployed three private instances of Wikibase, one of which I use personally to collect some structured notes.
I've found some Wikidata configurations/customization in the code that are not useful in a wild :-) installation. Also is a bit limiting using only Commons for media, because maybe I need to use local mediawiki images. But the greatest lack I perceived is the impossibility to use Wikidata items. For example if I want to extend a concept already described in Wikidata, for the moment, I must recreate everything in my local wikibase instance. Instead I wish I could be able to leverage more the linked data. That's my dream!
In general the guide is quite clear, also for enabling RDF API (with EasyRDF). I've just got some little problem with versions conflicts.

I was testing Wikibase in localhost and I feel the same that Alessio. I would use Wikibase for a near-future project, but in that moment isn't very useful. The support/documentation should be improved too, I am not a professional developer, I am an amateur, I usually learn everything what I need to deploy my own projects, but there is many things in which I feel lost.
I am also interested in another intallations of Wikibase, to check how it works.
Regards, Iván

Hi Susanna Ånäs, One question about Nimiarkisto, what is the reason why you use Semantic MediaWiki and Wikibase in the same installation? What needs covers each one? I think it is interesting, because in one future project I think to use Semantic MediaWiki instead of Wikibase, but this integration of both software seems to me curious.
Thanks in advance!
Regards, Iván
