Hi,
Is there a way to list organizations from Wikidata? I can see Google http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q95, but I can't see that it's a company or an organization. With Freebase this was quite easy as they have lists of categories on their homepage and I would simply need to visit freebase.com/organization
Also, with Freebase we could add any company. Can we add any company to Wikidata or must it have a Wikipedia article about it? I hope not as that would neuter its usefulness for many use cases. E.g. Crunchbase is a great resource for many people and yet most of the items in Crunchbase will never be in Wikipedia despite that usefulness.
Thanks, Ben

See [[WD:N]]. Article on wikimedia projects are generally needed. _______________________________________________

No. It is just one way to be notable. It is not a requirement.

Hi Ben,
The way to mark something as a company would be to set "instance of" (P31) to be company (Q783794), limited company (Q33685), corporation (Q167037), etc. Google has "Instance of: multinational corporation", which is a subclass of both "corporation" and "company". Instance of (P31) for any of these three, or a more specific term, would seem to work.
This search reports anything which has "instance of" set to corporation, company, or any subclass thereof. (The hierarchy tree needs tidying up a bit above these two...)

There's currently ~90,000 in Wikidata, of which ~72000 are in enwiki:

As regards scope... this is still a bit nebulous. A wikipedia article is a guaranteed "in scope" but not the sole requirement. Wikidata has been skirting around clearly defining this for some time now - point #2 of the notability policy is pretty slippery.
"It refers to an instance of a clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity. The entity must be notable, in the sense that it can be described using serious and publicly available references."
