Hello all,
Currently and since the Wikimedia projects pages and Wikidata items have been connected, the link "Wikidata item" appears on the menu column of the Wikimedia wikis, in the section "Tools".
However, many editors from various projects told us that it would make more sense to have the link in the "In other projects" section, since Wikidata is one of the Wikimedia projects and the Wikidata item link doesn’t really belong to the list of special pages.
This is why we are going to change the position of the link, on August 22nd for all Wikipedias and August 21st for all the other projects. After this date, *you will find the "Wikidata item" link in the "In other projects" section* of all Wikimedia projects.
In some cases, for example on help and meta pages, the section may contain two links to Wikidata, for example on en:Help:Contents https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents where there will be the "Wikidata" link (linking to d:Help:Contents https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Contents) and the "Wikidata item" link (linking to d:Q914807 https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q914807).
If you want to know more about the previous discussions or mention a bug or an issue, please add a comment to the related Phabricator task https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T66315. Cheers,
Makes quite a lot of sense. Thank you!

Hoi, Sad, there is a huge difference between all the other projects and Wikidata. It defines the link with all these other projects and the interwiki links. It will make it less easy to address the issues. Thanks, Gerard

Suggestion display the Q number in the link i.e. the user doesnt have to click the link to see the Q number
Motivation: more and more institution start use the Wikidata Qnumber and as we today display VIAF numbers, LCCN, GND numbers etc. for authority data I think we should make it easier to see that this WIkipedia article has a specific Q number
Regards Magnus Sälgö Stockholm, Sweden
*> Suggestion* display the Q number in the link i.e. the user doesnt have to click the link to see the Q number
+1 And sometimes extreme hard to find the wikidata link,
in my case: - if you don't know the letters of different languages, and you want cleaning the duplicated wikidata_id-s

In Russian Wikipedia there is a gadget that adds a link to an element in the header in the same form as it appears in Wikidata. I think that such a solution may be convenient for those who work with Wikidata often.

Nice! The "tools" section of the sidebar is an unrelated mess to avoid (ah, from the task it looks like 2014 me agrees).
The overall crowdedness of the sidebar has only got worse in the last few years, so there's still more to do in the future to make sure it's not just a cemetery of unused links.

Hear, hear.
In fact, since Wikidata is quite special and universal, the link to it should probably have some kind of a special location. But moving it to other projects is a good first step in that direction.
Comparing to something very similar, the user interface of structured metadatas associated to a file in commons, it seems to be far less visible and accessible. Considering the Wikidata datas are possibly used in the article, Wikidata is not « any » other project.
However it’s true that we put links to the datas in the infoboxes themselves and the « edit links » link in the interwiki section so this might not be a real issue.
