Hey folks :)
Here are the important things that happened around Wikidata over the last week.
Events https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Events/Press/Blogs https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Press_coverage
- Upcoming: Office hour on IRC on Friday https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata-l/2015-January/005222.html. You should come :) - Past: London Wikidata Meetup 2 - We had a meetup with nine people: - set up Wikidata:WikiProject UK and Ireland https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_UK_and_Ireland (sound recording of meeting available) - Upcoming: Open Data Day, 21st February 2015 - For generic wiki, see International Open Data Day http://wiki.opendataday.org/2015/City_Events - Open Data Camp UK http://odcamp.org.uk/posts/, Saturday/Sunday 21st/22nd February 2015
Other Noteworthy Stuff
- We just crossed 14000 active users (over the last month). Thank you all!
Did you know?
- Newest properties: Gray's Anatomy 1918 subject https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1698, Total valid votes https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1697, inverse of https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1696, NLP identifier https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1695 - Newest WikiProjects https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProjects: Food https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Food, UK and Ireland https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_UK_and_Ireland, Suisse https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Suisse - Newest gadgets: ExportClaims https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Petr_Matas/ExportClaims.js, *Mark as patrolled* from list of changes https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Petr_Matas/Mark_as_patrolled.js
Development
- The sitelink section has been reworked. This will go live on Wikidata on Tuesday. The sitelinks will then be slimmer and they will appear in a sidebar on the right side if there is enough space. - More performance improvements when parsing an item page, ~%15 faster for some pages :) - Titan was selected as the graph DB to implement a Wikidata query service running in production https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata-tech/2015-January/000706.html - Fixed adding links to ru.wikinews.org which was broken by its change to HTTPS-only - Worked on redesigning the header area (label, description, alias, in-other-languages box) - Polished d:Wikidata:Data access https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Data_access and d:Wikidata:Database download https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Database_download. Could still use some more work though if you have time. - Enabled PHP_CodeSniffer with Mediawiki rules and some additional ones to make us aware of more code issues - We no longer log some common 404 errors in the exception log
You can see all open bugs related to Wikidata here https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/query/4RotIcw5oINo/#R Monthly Tasks
- Hack on one of these https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/query/R8GRzX1eH0tb/#R. - Help fix these items https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:The_Game/Flagged_items which have been flagged using Wikidata - The Game. - Help develop the next summary here! https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Status_updates/Next - Contribute to a Showcase item https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Showcase_items
Anything to add? Please share! :)

Hey Lydia,
- We just crossed 14000 active users (over the last month). Thank you all!
Could you clarify?
http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikispecial/EN/TablesWikipediaWIKIDATA.htm
shows around 5k active users (=users with >5 edits) each month, but more than 18K users with an edit in November 2014 (so 14k would maybe not be a great thing ;-).

https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:Statistics is what I am tracking. That has not been over 14000 before. And yeah that does not match stats.wikimedia.org for whatever reason...
Cheers Lydia
I *think* the stats.wikimedia.org "authors" count is a cumulative total of all authors who've ever made an edit - note that it goes up steadily every month, and the "new" number + total from the previous month = current month. You can see the same thing here:
http://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/TablesWikipediaEN.htm
The Special:Statistics list is the total of people who've made an edit in the past 30 days.
Andrew.

Yes, I see it now. Stats also has a table for current numbers further down, labelled "Monthly counts for recent history of wiki". This table does indeed show contributor numbers below 14k for all months up to Nov 2014. Overall, the two counts seem to agree though :-)
