Hi all, first of all thank you for your supportive feedback. :)
I’m already at Wikimania, and I’m really looking forward for a chat with you all. :) If you’re not attending, please do feel free to contact me anyway, I’m always available for discussing new ideas!
I’m also writing to clarify just a couple of questions I and other team members have been asked about the scope of the EveryPolitician project and what you'll see from me in the coming months.
Our job is to make life easier for all Wikidata editors, so we are not planning on bulk importing data from EveryPolitician, rather we have some theories about how make our life easier in some ways, including: * better documentation (e.g. data models [1], examples, new tools); * reports on potential mistakes and errors in data;[2] * "prompts" to compare external sources of data (including EveryPolitician) to data in Wikidata to help editors make informed decisions about when data might be out of date.
These are the things currently on our road-map, but we hope you will tell us if there is something additional which would make your life much easier! We're eager to listen!
We will work with country editors wherever there is demand to improve political data. Some of you have already reached out, which is fantastic, but if we didn’t find each other yet, be bold :) and write to us! We are always looking for people to share their experience of what has worked and what doesn’t in a particular local context, as well as to try out early versions of the tools.
So, see you around at Wikimania and/or in our user talks! :)
L.
[1] A lot of work on documenting data models has happened in individual countries already so our main work will be helping to find people who have already been working on this and documenting these together somewhere where people can find them easily. Again, please reach out! [2] For an example of what we mean by reports, see this Head of Government mission we ran recently: https://medium.com/mysociety-for-coders/help-us-find-the-offices-of-heads-of... - there are many more where those came from.
