Dear list,
I was trying to run a Sample query from Wikidata on our page but I do not get the result I was hoping for. Can anybody give me an idea what I am doing wrong?
This is Wikidata's original Script:
https://query.wikidata.org/#%23Content%20of%20a%20reference%20for%20a%20spe…
this is my adaptation for FactGrid:
https://database.factgrid.de/query/#%23Content%20of%20a%20reference%20for%2…
and this is a FactGrid Item where this should work:
https://database.factgrid.de/wiki/Item:Q969
the man is proposed for an Illuminati Membership P91+Q38779. I want the query service to fetch the answer on the reference statement P51 primary source (and realise that my searches do not pay respect to the Q38779 focus). (Maybe the scripted focus does not even work on Wikidata...)
Thanks for the clue,
Olaf

2. Call for Papers - Industry Track
*******************************************
The industry track seeks to present the state of adoption of semantic technologies in industrial applications, and intends to facilitate a discussion about what current industry challenges can be addressed with semantic technologies. These technologies may be used in specific industries (e.g., media, financials, telecommunications, healthcare, life sciences, government, intelligence, public sector, industrial production etc.) and in different application areas (e.g., business intelligence, smart cities, digital twin, analytics, search, content management, knowledge management, recommendation systems, data integration, automotive etc.).
The industry track aims to facilitate the exchange between Semantic Web researchers and industrial solution developers to bridge between state-of-the-art research and its application in industrial scenarios. We welcome contributions about:
* Success stories of adoption of semantic technologies and knowledge graphs in real-world environments, especially by emphasizing how these technologies have succeeded in creating value as well as key factors for the success of the adoption in a large-scale organization.
* Experiences about challenges that are encountered in an industry setting when adopting a solution based on semantic technologies.
* Contributions about current challenges in industrial fields which should be tackled by semantic technologies, emphasizing solution approaches and existing issues that are currently only insufficiently addressed by Semantic Web research.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Development and application of semantic technologies and knowledge graphs for specific industries (automotive, financial, healthcare and life sciences, energy industry, industry 4.0, public sector etc.)
* Real-world applications of semantic technologies for enabling FAIR (meta) data
* Approaches to bridge between domain experts and semantic technology experts
* Successful application domains: Knowledge management, data integration, data sharing, search, Business Intelligence, data analytics, open data, enterprise data management etc.
* Industrial trends related to the usage of Linked Data, Open Data and Semantic Web technologies
* Financial and strategic investments in semantic technologies
* Machine Learning approaches in connection with the Semantic Web (e.g. ML for knowledge graph completion or ontology matching, learning of knowledge graph and entity embeddings, question answering, etc)

Hello all!
Here is a short update on what we have been doing around WDQS lately.
The update lag over the last 30 days has been slightly better [1]. We have
not done anything more to improve it, or to analyze why it was less
problematic lately. My guess is that it is a combination of being lucky and
that the self throttling of edit based on the WDQS lag exposed through the
Wikidata API.
We are now collecting more metrics from the WDQS updater [2] and exposing
them through a new dashboard [3]. We are also collecting queries for
analysis. Our hope is that digging into those queries (when we'll have
time) will allow us to discover patterns of queries that might be better
served with a different solution than Blazegraph.
We have loaded Wikidata dumps in Hadoop. This allows us to run analysis
that would not be possible with Blazegraph. For example, we ran an analysis
of the usage of common qualifiers for “unknown value” [4].
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T246238>
There is an ongoing discussion about the use of blank nodes [5]. Blank
nodes are problematic for our updater, as finding them is by design a non
trivial operation. The discussion is still ongoing, but it is likely that
we will need to introduce a breaking change in the way we are using blank
nodes. We will provide an update once we know more precisely what we need
to do and we have a migration path for use cases using them.
We are now focused on a complete rewrite of the WDQS Updater [6]. We are
investigating using Flink [7] as a stream processing solution. This should
allow us to both simplify the update process a lot and make it a lot more
efficient. There is still a lot of work to be done before this is complete,
but we think we have a good path forward.
Misc:
* some aliases for Wikidata have been deployed [8]
As always, thank you for your patience!
Guillaume

Registration announcement
LD4 Conference on Linked Data in Libraries: May 13-14, 2020
Preconference workshops: May 12, 2020
Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA
Registration starts: Wednesday, March 4
Stipend application deadline: Sunday, March 15
Registration deadline: Friday, April 17
We're excited to announce that registration for the 2020 LD4 Conference will open on Wednesday, March 4th. Join us May 13-14 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, USA to learn concrete ways that linked data benefits GLAM institutions, and discover pathways to participation in linked data. Please visit the conference web site (ld4.io)<http://ld4.io> for more details. Wikimedians are most warmly welcome to attend and participate in this conference!
Whether you have already implemented linked data in your work or are just getting started, you will leave with a better understanding of what linked data is, how it can be used, and what you can do to get started or continue to incorporate linked data in your institutions or projects. By bringing together a broad range of perspectives, and centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethics in our discussions, we will create a community of practice for linked data in libraries.
We are delighted to have Karen Hwang as our conference kick-off speaker. Karen's practice as a metadata professional and archivist is rooted in concerns of discoverability and representation. She works to promote underrepresented histories through digital collections, and has explored ways to implement linked open data to enhance and boost the discovery of cultural heritage resources. Other program highlights include, "Workshopping Queeries: Linked Data Vocabularies and Ethical Cataloging," "Where Linked Data Can Impact User Experience: Findings from a Study on Discovery Workflows," "'I don't think I'll ever understand linked data': How to Teach Linked Data to Our Colleagues," and "Linking bilingual bibliographic data: a Wikidata-based project of Chinese writers' archival collections."
A $100 registration fee will help to cover conference expenses and will include food and beverages during morning and afternoon breaks as well as a lunch buffet for both conference days, May 13th and 14th. There will not be an additional registration fee for pre-conference workshops on March 12th. Thanks to the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, a limited number of stipends<https://sites.google.com/stanford.edu/ld42020/stipends> will be available to make participation possible for those who would not otherwise be able to attend.
We hope that you'll join us! Please visit conference web site (ld4.io)<http://ld4.io> for more information. We'll send out another message on Wednesday when registration opens.

* Up to $1250 US of travel expenses covered plus registration fee ($100 US) waived
Stipend applications will be reviewed by the Program Committee and recipients selected based on merit and need.
We are accepting proposals for content in a variety of formats and especially encourage proposals (conference or pre-conference) from participants from groups and regions that are traditionally underrepresented in conferences related to linked data in libraries and other cultural heritage organizations, as well as proposals from early career professionals. Please see the full Call for Proposals<https://sites.google.com/stanford.edu/ld42020/call-for-proposals> for additional details.
The Program Committee will select proposals and contact all applicants by February 21st. For those interested in attending without proposing a session, a separate call for participation will be announced in late February.
