Hi,
I got the following problem. If I use the search field of the main page
searching for "Brian O'Nolan" I get a result.
But if I use the following piece of code in the query service no result
shows up.
SELECT ?_Geburtsdatum WHERE {
?s ?label "Brian O'Nolan".
OPTIONAL { ?s wdt:P569 ?_Geburtsdatum. }
}
What I'm doing wrong? Is it a problem of coding the apostrophe?
If yes, how do I have to code it?
Best regards
Detlef
Hoi,
Next week an API will become available at Open Library that provides their
available books for an author based on their identifier. This will allow us
(if they want it) to provide these books through {{authority control}} on
the English Wikipedia and others when they care to have this.
What I have asked the OL is to provide their identifier per author,
combined with the ISBN for an author. When the OCLC or anyone else runs a
process to identify the associated VIAF (maybe later the Wikidata)
identifiers we have made a next step.
What I have also asked the Open Library is if they can provide us with
names in the local language of the publications. This allows us to ask
people who know the language using Mix'n Match to identify the authors and
maybe add Wikidata items. When we then iterate this process with the OCLC
(or whoever) to add the VIAF identifiers, we slowly but surely provide a
better service to all the readers of the world.
I do care that people read and make the best possible use of the services
of the Open Library, all the libraries in the world or our projects. Our
aim is to share in the sum of all knowledge. Making this possible with
Wikidata makes me proud to be involved in Wikidata.
Thanks,
GerardM
PS More details next week.
Hello,
We've been working on integrating some external databases in the Query
Service endpoint. You can now query in the same time Wikidata and other
free knowledge bases. For now, only databases released under the most
compatible licenses, such as CC0, are available. Currently available:
* Europeana[1], the huge collection of cultural data, which is entirely
available in public domain.
* Nomisma.org[2], a collaborative project to provide stable digital
representations of numismatic concepts.
* Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes [3]
* Biblioteca Nacional de España [4]
Soon, we plan to also enable querying other databases, with licenses
such as CC-BY. We plan to continue add endpoints based on user requests.
The currently available endpoints are listed here:
https://query.wikidata.org/copyright.html
The documentation about the feature (which will also be updated when we
add more endpoints) is in the Query Service User Manual [5].
Here are some examples to understand how to build such queries:

Thanks a lot for your input! If you have any question or problem, feel
free to contact me.
