Hey :)
Cirrus search is now default on Wikidata. This should considerably
improve the search situation on
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:Search for special characters
for example. It might still need some tweaking though. It'd be awesome
if you could give the search a try and collect things at
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#Cirrus_search_is_now_de…
that still don't work as they should.
Cheers
Lydia

Hey :)
I just wanted to let you know that Wikisource is now enabled on
test.wikidata.org. Nothing spectacular but some people asked. You can
add sitelinks to Wikisource.
Cheers

Hi,
first of all we would like to introduce ourselves.
We are students from the wikidata.lib bachelor project at the chair of Prof. Dr. Naumann "Information Systems". We will work on Wikidata from October 2013 until June 2014. Our mentor is Anja Jentzsch. Every member is a student of the Hasso-Plattner-Institute in their fifth semester of Bachelor.
We aim to provide an extension for wikidata, that simplifies adding statements by suggesting properties which fit to the item.
BugZilla Ticket we relate to: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46555
Our Project Documentation: https://github.com/Wikidata-lib/Wikidata.lib/wiki/Intelligent-Forms
Status:
At the moment we have API functionality to return property suggestions ranked by correlation with an item or a set of property ids. You can try it out yourself here:
http://suggester.wmflabs.org/wiki/index.php/Spezial:PropertySuggester
Alternatively you can use the underlying api module "wbsgetsuggestions"
The next step will be to integrate that functionality with the entityselector input field when adding statements to some item.
We are looking forward to your feedback and ideas.

Hey everyone :)
I'm happy to announce that earlier this week Adrian Lang joined
Wikimedia Germany's software development team. He'll be working
part-time with us. His main focus will be helping out with user
interface tasks around Wikidata.
A bit of background about Adrian: He joined the German Wikipedia in
2007 and became a sysop that year. In 2008, he worked as a sysop on
German Wikipedia and on Commons and as part of the German OTRS team,
before he gradually left the community again. While active, he wrote
various JavaScript tools for facilitating new images patrol, page
deletion and moving images to Commons among other things. Afterward,
he spent two years working on the PHP-based wiki engine DokuWiki as
part of his professional life. For the last one and a half years, he
worked as a freelance software developer focusing on doing JavaScript,
client-side as well as with Node.js.
We're thrilled to have Adrian on board. Please say hi if you see him around.
Cheers
Lydia

Happy new year everyone!
The overview of Wikidata over the past week includes some discussions over
administrative aspects and policies as well as two open RfAs. The
development section is very empty however but enjoy the replacement, a word
from me and a brief overview of what I hope Wikidata will do this year and
some possible plans for the summaries within the next few weeks. Enjoy!
