I think this category is actually a list of redirect, from the diacritic-less spellings to the diacriticed actual articles. There's over 309 K redirects. Not sure though.

It is my experience that they are commonly used, but some editors are challenging that ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(use_... ). I wonder if we have any data on that, or if somebody could create and run some form of query on the database (as I don't code, this is unfortunately beyond my capabilities).
