Following Brion's note on server setup, I think we should revisit some
architectural stuff. I am not sure if we will get stuff right the first
time but we should try:
I would be grateful if you could review this:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/OpenStreetMap#Project_goals
From there we can try to set priorities, put together architecture and
finally start installing stuff.

Hi
Sorry if I missed it, I'm new to the maps-integration (how long can i
use this excuse?). Is there any plan of having a (more or less) complete
osm-database as described in [1] in the toolserver cluster?
The "current" part would be needed to experiment with routing,
the "history" part could be used for statistical analysis,
the "raw" part could be used for quality assurance (e.g. ways without a
gps-track). The "user" and "diary" parts are not so useful as they got
not relation to the geo-data.
"current" may be filled from a planet.osm. I don't know how the
"history" or the "raw" part could be retrieved and if they are can be
kept up2date with the diffs.

Hello all,
to make sure that CVE-2009-2692 is fixed after the kernel-update, I rebooted
all linux-servers (that's nightshade, wolfsbane and cassini) tonight.
The downtime was fewer then 5 minutes.
Sincerly,
DaB.

Hi
I'm the author of
http://cassini.toolserver.org/~mazder/multilingual-country-list/, which
is afaik the first public tool on the new wikimedia toolserver. It's
really great to have those ressources that enables me to work with the
dataset of a complete planet -- this is sth. i couldn't do anywhere else.
But atm. the possibilities for new projects on cassini are not that
good, because what we have now is an outdated a snapshot of the world.
This is not enough for most interactive tools.
So what are the next steps?
Tim Alder said he'd like to wait for the main db-server (ptolemy) to set
up regular updates. Aude said thst the postgres-db on cassini needs some
changes configuration, including a better way of authentication. He also
filed a jira-ticket about getting sudo-access on cassini. [1]
So for now to me the main question is: when
will we get access to the main-db server.
If this will be the case soon, we could skip all work on cassini and do
it directly on the main-db.
When we exclude the postgres-setup, in my eyes cassini is already
finished and the next logical step would be getting the production
rendering online.
I'm new to this whole organizational stuff but I think i'm getting used
to it slowly :) So if i missed something important, please be gentle.

What is this mess about official_name, name and loc_name ?
Is someone shifting what was earlier name/loc_name to something new
like official_name/name ?
Where is it discussed/described on this ML or the wiki ?

For the english ones: he's reporting that my tool took
zh-classic as lang-code, while the wikipedia uses zh-classical. The
problem is the length of my languagecode-column in mysql -- it's only 10
chars long.
I changed this to 20 chars and also changed all occurencies of
zh-classic to zh-classical. I hope that does not bereak too much of the
tagging..

Hi,
on the meeting in april I said that I could do the admin job for the productve
servers.
I have asked several times to get access to this servers, but until now it was
not posible to give me access to it.
I do not have the patience anymore, I see Wikipedia is big, there are many
people doing something, many rules, many people to ask, people who had to
trust me (but I do not know if they trust me).
There is enough work for me In the Fossgis e.V. (OpenStreetMap Germany), so I
will spend my time there.
I hope that you will find other people who do the job, it will help Wikipedia
and OpenStreetMap.
Best Regards
Sven Anders
Hi
I'm planning to ask for a toolserver accout on Cassini. I've got some
ideas on making the translation more easy.
But before I do so, i'd like to ask, which Script Interpreters are
currently available for Web-apps: php, Perl, Python? None of them is
mentioned at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SlippyMap/Cassini/Setup_notes

I think the best place for the maps bugs is the maps-l list. (if no one
objects)
Or, they can Ævar, myself, and anyone else that wants to get them.
