The Dirtyer - a tile renewer

Hi, as a by-product, I created 'The Dirtyer': http://toolserver.org/~ti/dirtyer/ Paste any toolserver-tile-URL (e.g. tiles/bicycle/13/4290/2868.png) and it will mark the tile itself and up to three generations of offsprings as dirty (where one generation is the four tiles for the same area on the next zoom level). So if OSM data changes, you don't have to request a redraw for every tile yourself. I restricted the maximum depth to 3, so server usage shouldn't be too high. Regards, Thomas PS: What I'm not sure about: Is the tile redrawn immediately when it's marked as /dirty or only with the next request?

Base-Layers

Hi, some time ago, I discused with Kay ( http://parking.openstreetmap.de/ ) that it would be nice to have some kind of rendered base layer without streets. That would give the overlay-creators much more flexibility to design maps. Right now, it is for example impossible to un-highlight the prominent rendering of motorways which are less important for bicycle maps. We did not yet discuss which elements should always be rendered, but I think for a start that would be landuse=, natural=, building=... Any coments, why that would be a good/bad idea? :) Regards, Thomas

... while I was waiting for my tiles to get rendered[1] and created another map that has nothing to do with the original purpose I signed up for: I present you `The WheelChairMap´: http://toolserver.org/~ti/wcm/ It's far from being finished but now ready for a beta-release. Maps and Semantic Maps 0.6.4 released

Hey, Maps and Semantic Maps 0.6.4 are now available for download [0]. This release contains several new features, amongst which basic KML support for Google Maps, a new OSM service implementation and re-added service links support to the Geographical Coordinates data-type in Semantic Maps. For a full list of changes since 0.6.3 see changes to Maps and changes to SM. Everyone running 0.6.2 or older is advised to upgrade as soon as possible. It's running, the config was just referring to style files that had been removed since the last restart. Recent renderd/mod_tile improvements

Hi, just today, jburgess improved the renderd output to show which layer is failing (and apparently doesn't exit renderd at this point), and a related mod_tile change ("it now drops any tile requests for the broken layer and logs another error message for each request"). Since I just restarted renderd for a change in hikebike only to see it crash after a few minutes (which doesn't seem to be due to my style changes), these improvements would be quite handy to have. monitoring of ptolemy

Hello, is there a way to monitoring the load and the replag on ptolemy? (mumin or so) We get a lots of request[1] from the smoking-map because it was on heise.de[2] but we seems to survive without problems. Hello list, someone might find my sample implementation useful. I did it for Markus B who wanted to use it to illustrate this: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksbegehren_%E2%80%9EF%C3%BCr_echten_Nichtra… Basically it is a sample implementation for a special purpose map. It displays different layers according to a special tag in the OSM database. As the selection criteria changed a lot I made the decision to serve it as a vector layer instead of tiles. My decision was mainly based on the ease of development and easier changes to the "style". In general I think it is a trade-off between the load caused by having the query on each access versus the rendering and storage of tiles that might be rarely requested and thus always rendered because invalidated in the meantime. So for a map having a lot of view a bitmap layer might be better. Some highlights are: - vector layer for POIs - passing of current resolution to back-end - layers disabled for some zoom levels - grouping/clustering of features on the back-end - simple editor to change data You can find the source-code and a link to the running map here: http://toolserver.org/~stephankn/index.html It's GPL, so feel free to base your work upon it. In case someone has a bit more experience with javascript than I do: I would like to have the read function extended. So instead of completely copy-pasting the code I would prefer to have my extension and then call the "base class implementation". As it is completely different with javascript than with c++ I don't know how to do it yet. I would like even more if the params would evaluate the given value similar to the "context" that is done in other parts. Then passing a callback function would make passing specific parameters a lot easier. If there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Stephan

How to connect renderd to own renderer?

Hi. I wrote a render script that (similar to the compositing that hike&bike map does) does things that mapnik is not capable of. My script is written in python and can render bboxes into arbitrarily sized images, as well is able to serve tiles (e.g. http:localhost/bla.../12/345/678.png) However it is probably the utmost slow renderer there is, it takes about 3 minutes for a simple tile. (Which is ok, because it's experimental only at the time. :)) How can I make renderd (or tirex, or tilecache) call that script, I found no documentation on that. I want to create metatiles of course, too, because I have a thin lines of garbage at the tile boundaries. Can you please give me a hint/link on how/where to start? Thanks a lot, Kay

New Planet-Import with extra hstore columns

Hi I'd like to start a new planet import using the new --hstore-column feature of osm2pgsql. It would allow us to have a "name:" column, containing all translations and thus allow better rendering of translated objects. I'll run it directly on ptolemy into the existing osm_mapnik database but with a different prefix.
