We've talked about increasing the visibility of GLAM on Wikipedia.
I noticed that (in EN at least) our project templates don't mention GLAM in the visible text at all. I wonder if we should consider:
- Adding the "square" GLAM logo on the right in project templates that don't already have in image on the right, linked to the WP's main GLAM page (in EN, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM).
- Adding text in the project description such as "one of Wikipedia's Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM) initiatives" (also linked).
What do you think?
Paula
Hi Paula,
this is a good idea. Even though I am doubtful for the languages apart from English. Did I understand You, that you propose to ad that logo to the WP article of an museum that does have a Wikimedia project. How would we deal with time? If the project is done, will the logo be removed?
Any way it is a good thing. Because I believe that GLAMs do check one other GLAMs and their WP articles and it will help them to find the information they need to start their own WP GLAM project.
Could we discuss this further?

I propose to add the logo to the WikiProject assessment template that goes on the talk pages of articles tagged as part of the project.
Example here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:GLAM/GWU

Paula, this is a nice idea. To get into the specifics a bit, I would try not to describe GLAM-Wiki as an "initiative" in a talk page banner. I am of the opinion that if we want to seem as inviting as we can to the Wikipedians who will be seeing these project templates, that means using the language of normal WikiProjects.
I would be happy if all GLAM-related project templates looked like the WikiProject United States, like the one here: < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Arizona%3E. Arizona being a sort of sub-WikiProject under United States, the templates all look like "WikiProject United States / Arizona" and use language like "This article is within the scope of WikiProject United States...[description]" at the top, and then below have the specific project, in the case "This article is supported by WikiProject Arizona." Replace "United States" with GLAM and "Arizona" with the specific GLAM in question, like George Washington University Libraries for an idea of how this would look, and how it would incorporate both logos.

Dominic, thanks for that idea. I like the approach. Personally, I don't much like having a second image on the left under the ratings, or trying to accommodate two importance ratings (and that doesn't apply to GLAM projects in general anyway).
Let me look at how that template is built and make a mock-up for comments....
