Kia ora,[1]
I work at Auckland Museum, and am keen on continuing the work that Fae started[2] on uploading images and data from our collections to Commons.
I'd like to request to join the GWToolset usergroup. My colleague Adam Moriarty has already had our domain whitelisted.[3]
I have an account at beta,[4] and have successfully uploaded a few files to Commons using PattyPan.[5] I would like to be able to use the GWToolset, and would also like to try uploading using file URLs through Pattypan, or perhaps (also) through the GWToolset.
Please let me know if there is any more information you need in order for this right to be granted.
Kind regards, Hugh Lilly

Hi Hugh,
GWT access to load images directly to Wikimedia Commons is granted on the bureaucrat's noticeboard.[1] Just make the same request there. Rarely is more asked than where you have made some uploads on the beta server to check you are using a valid licence and sensible templates.
For those that don't know: * The /GLAM wiki toolset/ is a web service that can rapidly upload very large collections of files to Wikimedia Commons by mapping data from an XML file to templates. It is very fast as it allows you to use multiple processing threads directly on WMF servers.[2] * Having a URL /whitelisted/ means that files are uploaded by WMF servers direct from the source or archive servers, no need for you to have local copies.
As a general rule, the GWT is a great tool to upload tens of thousands of files very quickly. As this could lead to making a big mess very fast, the right is carefully managed even though anyone can request it if they have a good idea for a large batch upload project. The GWT is specifically designed for GLAM collections where metadata can be extracted in XML format. Other tools are available that help under different circumstances.[3]
