Congratulations to Lane! It seems that GLAM is geting up speed. How about seting up a global map, marking all the GLAM activities and not just the countries? It would help me a lot!

Concratulations to Lane!
Richard, one of my pet peeves about Wikipedia is the lack of interwiki links in medical articles. I tried to get some cooperation from the World Health Organization to have them release their ICD-10 codes and descriptions in 36 languages, but no luck. Sadly, I think the WHO is deeply embedded in old, hierarchical organizational structures that don't allow for an open-access mindset. In this day of high mobility, getting information to people when they need it in the language they need it may save lives. That is just one example where wikification might help organizations to achieve their original mission, but there are many, many more.

I am thrilled to share with you that Consumer Reports, a longtime and
highly respected U.S.-based non-profit, has this week appointed Lane Rasberry as its first Wikipedian in Residence, as part of an initiative to improve the public's access to accurate information about medical tests and procedures. We expect a formal announcement from Consumer Reports within the next two weeks; but Lane will be beginning his outreach work to Wikipedians and others in the medical field in the meantime.
Lane is active in Wikipedia editing and outreach, with a focus on
clinical research ethics and open science. Lane's skills, experience, and passions will be a great asset to both Wikipedia and Consumer Reports; please join me in extending a warm welcome to him!
(While Consumer Reports is of course not a GLAM, the program drew
very heavily on GLAM programs, so I think the readers on this list should be among the first to know!)
