Hello,
The next office hour of the Wikimedia Language Engineering team is
scheduled for next Wednesday, September 16th at 15:00 UTC. Like our last
office hour, this time also we are hosting it as an online discussion over
Hangout/Youtube with a simultaneous IRC conversation. Due to the limitation
of Google Hangouts, only a limited number of slots are available. Hence, do
let us know (on the event page

would like to participate on the Hangout. The IRC channel #wikimedia-office
and the Q&A channel for the youtube broadcast will be open for interactions
during the session.

I talked to Charlotte SH Jensen at the National Museum in Copenhagen yesterday.
We've been talking and doing stuff for several years, so we have a
huge backlog of ideas that didn't work, but we're still able to find
new things to do.
One idea that came up yesterday is rotating pictures on Wikipedia. We
hope to get people to do something at the #hack4dk hackathon in early
October.

Coding da Vinci. This hackathon is organized by WMDE, DDB, OKF and digiS.
This time focussing on the punch cards to mechanical pianos of the
Deutsche Museum, Munich. All 4 apps using the punchcard data are open
source data, so feel free to collaborate to enhance them. Those who like to
help to integrate the data still better to the Wikimedia projects please
turn to me or anyone at WMDE.

Subject: Seeking comments and translations for proposed video project
Dear Wikimedia colleagues:
I am developing a proposal for a video series that's designed to introduce
Wikimedia to new contributors (particularly in GLAM and education
programs), and to motivate them to participate in the community in a
constructive way. I would appreciate your input. The video is intended for
translation into multiple languages; there are already volunteers for
Spanish and German translation.

Wikipedians who want to work with GLAMs to acclimatize to the language,
terminology, and jargon in the field.
Knowing the right words to use, and what they mean, will lead to more
effective outreach and partnerships.

The Community Engagement department has launched a new learning campaign[1]
to gather community impressions about what makes a healthy community
online. Users can contribute by answering one of six questions[2] or
submitting a drawing.
*Why take part in this campaign?*
The world is changing. The way we relate to knowledge is transforming. As
the next billion people come online, the Wikimedia movement is working to
bring more users on the wiki projects. The way we interact and collaborate
online are key to building sustainable projects. How accessible are
Wikimedia projects to newcomers today? Are we helping each other
learn? Share your views on this matter that affects us all!
We invite everyone to take part in this learning campaign. Wikimedia
Foundation will distribute one Wikimania Scholarship 2016 among those
participants who are eligible.
As many of you might be working to bring other knowledge communities to the
Wikimedia movement (like museums, libraries, archives, schools and
universities, etc), I think your views as liaisons of the wiki universe
will make the conversation very rich =)
