Boldly forwarding* in case others would like to view or present a lightning
talk. I plan to give a lightning talk about the video series
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Motivational_and_educational_vid…>
which I'm in the process of producing with the support of an individual
engagement grant.
Although these talks can be about technical topics like video formats, I
think that there are education and GLAM activities that could fit under the
umbrella as well, especially if they have technical or research aspects.
For example, I'll probably focus much of my presentation on my background
research and project design process.
Hope to see you there!
Pine

Hi All,
The next Lightning Talks are scheduled for February 16th (two weeks from
today). We hope at least 4 people will sign up for the talks by Friday
February 12th otherwise we will postpone them another month. Lightning
Talks are an opportunity for teams @ WMF & in the Community to showcase
something they have achieved: a quarterly goal, milestone, release, or
anything of significance to the rest of the foundation and the movement as
a whole.
Each presentation will be 10 minutes or less including time for questions.

Hi there!
I started a while ago with WMAR on our digitalization project for GLAM.
This april there is a event in Buenos Aires, about preservation and
conservation on librarys and archives, and i am trying to present Wiki
and our efforts there. So...if someone have already talked about those
topics, and have it in audio or video, i would really appreciate it.
Best,

Hi all,
I will have an office hour regarding the development of the Motivational
and educational video to introduce Wikimedia
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Motivational_and_educational_vid…>
project. I would appreciate your comments and questions about:
* The outline of the subjects that will be included in the videos
* Good practices for onboarding newcomers that may be leveraged in the
video series
* What to name the video series when it is released to the general public
* Translation of the public communications related to the videos, and
translation of the script
* Anything else related to the series
Please participate in a Doodle poll to help with scheduling the office
hour: http://doodle.com/poll/eu4m62ccdq4senuv
I also welcome questions and comments on the project talk page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:IEG/Motivational_and_educationa…>
.
Thank you!

In February, I'm undertaking a three-week tour of Australia, giving
talks about Wikidata, and Wikipedia's GLAM collaborations. There will
also be social meetups. I'll be visiting Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra
and Perth.
If you can, do join us, and please share this draft itinerary (more to
be added!):

with your Australian Wikimedia, OpenData, GLAM or OpenStreetMap
contacts, and invite them to come along.

Hi all, (cross posting on purpose, no excuses)
Great news for everyone interested in cultural heritage.
Wikimedia Sverige, along with partners UNESCO, Wikimedia Italia and
Cultural Heritage without Borders, has received a $300,000 grant from
Kulturstiftelsen (the Swedish postcode lottery) to work on a project
called Connected
Open Heritage.[1]
The project lasts until July 2017, and during that time we will work on:
-
Migrating the information in the WLM database to Wikidata
-
Updating and adding new data about monuments, including from ten
countries where cultural heritage is at risk
-
Uploading tens of thousands of images and media files from cultural
heritage institutions
-
Increasing awareness about what the Wikimedia movement is doing in the
cultural heritage field, both to the Wikimedia communities, general public
and also to experts in the field
-
Promoting open data and free licenses
-
Organizing a photo exhibition with images of cultural heritage in at
least three countries.
All info on the project, including who to contact if you want to get
involved, timeplan, activities and such are available on Meta. The talk
page on Meta is open for comments and questions, and all input on this is
welcome.

Hello all,
Sara Thomas here, Wikimedian in Residence at Museums Galleries Scotland. My post is rapidly coming to an end... and as we apply for more funding for the post (not from WMUK), we're looking to create an evaluation tool which can be used to evidence the impact of these programmes. One of the aims is that we can use this tool - and its outcomes - to build a stronger case for support for further funding, and that it could be shared with other residents and GLAM partnerships.
My research thus far has taken me to toolsets for evidencing the impact of the digitisation of museum collections, and there's a growing body of work on that. However, what we're looking at is somewhat different, and I'd really love to hear from anyone - particularly from outwith the UK - who has any Wiki-specific evaluation experience and could offer advice.
I'm contactable on sarat(a)museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk if you'd rather talk off-list.
Many thanks, and hope to speak to some of you soon!Best,Sara ThomasWikimedian in ResidenceMuseums Galleries Scotlandhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/Museums_Galleries_Scot…
