Hi Everyone,
How is underrepresented knowledge on wikimedia projects addressed through
new ways of contributions? Intangible cultural heritage of different tribes
in Africa is one such knowledge facing underrepresentation on wikimedia
projects. As indigenous people migrate to cities; face an aging population
of cultural guardians and a strong tradition of oral storytelling, it is
important to save the voices of knowledge at the brink of extinction.
See how

the Wikimedia Foundation is supporting community efforts to digitize
endangered igbo dances in Nigeria through the AID project

Hello everyone,
We have our next LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group Call on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 17:00 UTC / 6pm CET (Time zone converter<https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1676998823>). Jim Hahn and John Mark Ockerbloom for Penn Libraries Linked Data Vision:
This presentation will introduce the University of Pennsylvania Libraries Linked Data Vision (https://guides.library.upenn.edu/linked-data), and describe our experiences developing and implementing it. Our vision document defines a framework for activities and goals around linked data, involving both existing standards and systems as well as new desired functionality that linked data may help us address. We will share successes in carrying out the linked data vision, and also discuss areas where we have not yet made progress. We will also discuss some of our projects with Wikidata tie-ins, including our Digital Scriptorium Wikibase project, our Deep Backfile copyright information project, and other Wikidata enhancement projects. We hope to have ample time for conversation with those interested in or working on bringing new functionality to their libraries with linked data.
The call details are below. If you aren't able to attend, the meetings are recorded and meeting notes are available on Google Drive<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JwTulCABs0TkGQDVSnYbIYEb7bC-j4-n>. To receive notifications about upcoming calls and meeting notes you can subscribe to the ld4-wikidata Google Group<https://groups.google.com/d/forum/ld4-wikidata>.
The LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group is associated with the LD4 Community and investigates how libraries can contribute to and better integrate library metadata with Wikidata to improve access to library resources on the web. The Affinity Group calls provide an informal space to share information and learn more about Wikidata.

Dear colleagues,
Please join us for the next installment of the LD4 Wikibase Working Hour<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_LD4_Wikidata_Affinity_Gr…>
When: Mon. 13 February 2023, 1PM Eastern (time zone converter<https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20230213T180000&p…>)
Registration: Please follow this link to register: https://columbiauniversity.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYrdO-prTsvGtVEblXS0d_…<https://www.google.com/url?q=https://columbiauniversity.zoom.us/meeting/reg…>
The February Working Hour will feature a presentation by Steve Baskauf on using VanderBot with Wikibase:
The Wikibase API provides a mechanism for programmatic control of uploads, and its behavior is consistent across instances (Wikidata, Structured Data in Commons, and those that are established privately). In this session, I will discuss basic interactions with the API and demonstrate using the VanderBot Python application to rapidly upload tabular data to a wikibase.cloud instance. After performing a mass deletion, I’ll conclude by describing how I’ve used the Wikibase API to facilitate addition of structured data to Commons.
Steve Baskauf is a Data Science and Data Curation Specialist at the Vanderbilt University Heard Libraries. He has had a long-term interest in Linked Data and for the past several years has been experimenting with ways to streamline uploads to Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
About the LD4 Wikibase Working Hour:
The LD4 Wikibase Working Hour<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_LD4_Wikidata_Affinity_Gr…> is part of the LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_LD4_Wikidata_Affinity_Gr…> and seeks to create a space for GLAM professionals experimenting with Wikibase/WBStack implementation, the software that Wikidata is based on, to learn collaboratively and share tips, tools, and resources. For more details, see the project page<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_LD4_Wikidata_Affinity_Gr…>.
