Hello! My apologies if you see similar announcements across platforms, we
are hoping to reach as many interested folks as possible.
We are having a community conversation and demonstration of a new tool in
development, View it!. Please join us (anyone is allowed to attend) on
Wednesday, August 31st at 14:00 GMT
<https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/event?lid=5577147%2C5128581%2C3435910&h=5577…>
If you’re interested in learning more but are unable to attend, please feel
free to email me, or visit our Meta page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/View_it!_Tool> and sign up for updates (or
beta testing).
View it! is a tool that will show Wikipedia users (editors and hopefully
readers, too) relevant Wikimedia Commons media depicting - or otherwise
related to - the article they are viewing.
The number of images displayed in a Wikipedia article is finite and highly
curated by editors; through View it! users will have access to the full
catalog of images available on Wikimedia Commons. View it! will increase
discoverability of Wikimedia Commons uploads and encourage contributors to
utilize Commons and structured data
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Structured_data>.
Please join Dominic Byrd-McDevitt (User:Dominic
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dominic>), Kevin Payravi (
User:SuperHamster <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SuperHamster>), and
Jamie Flood (User:JamieF <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JamieF>) to
share more about the vision for View it! and have a community conversation
about functionality of the tool and suggestions for structured data to be
utilized.
We look forward to chatting with you and hope you’ll join us!
Thank you,
Dominic, Kevin, & Jamie
Sharing this information that was shared in the OpenGLAM list since some of
you might find it useful.
cheers,

Dear all,
Want to learn about open culture, open licenses and get CC Certified? Good
news! CC is offering 41 additional scholarships for our upcoming CC
Certificate for GLAM courses!
To access a 60% scholarship for an upcoming Certificate for GLAM course,
follow these directions by May 29, 2023:
Step 1:
-
If you want to take the course in September 2022… Select the September
2022 GLAM Certificate course from this list of courses
<https://www.classy.org/event/2022-cc-certificate-course-registration/e35473…>
.
-
If you want to take the course in 2023, select a Certificate for “Open
Culture” course from the 2023 list of courses
<https://www.classy.org/event/2023-cc-certificate-course-registration/e421240>
.
Step 2:
-
When registering for your course, select the option to “add promo code”
and type in: Y2GLAMSCHOLAR60%. That will provide you with a 60% discount
on registration.
Notes:
-
The discount will work as long as scholarship tickets last. Please
complete registration to claim the discount before tickets run out.
-
Because our current funding for scholarships expires by May 2023, we
cannot accommodate late requests, refunds or transfers. Please let us know
if you have any difficulties in registering before then.
-
We anticipate having scholarships for future Open Culture/GLAM courses,
so if you’re unable to secure a scholarship now, watch this space for
future scholarships.
-
We will transition the title of this course from the “CC Certificate for
GLAM” to the “CC Certificate for Open Culture" in 2023.
Program information:
The CC Certificate for Open Culture/ GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives
and museums) is a professional development training for institutions or
community groups engaged in cultural heritage. As more GLAMs adapt to
increasingly online audiences and users, they often seek Creative Commons
legal tools, expertise and community support. Cultural heritage
institutions share a common goal with Creative Commons: to make knowledge
and culture globally accessible.
In the course, community members will build capacity in opening access to
cultural heritage. They will develop a deeper understanding of open
licensing and copyright considerations with digitization projects, CC
licenses and tools, Rights Statements, Traditional Knowledge Labels,
working with the public domain, and more.
CC Certificate participants will also gain access to a global community of
professionals and activists working toward similar cultural and policy
changes in their own cultural heritage institutions.
Best,
Jennryn
