Today I proposed a product plan [1] for Event Tool based on the two Sept. 6 metrics posts—here [2] and here [3]—that I brought to this list a few weeks ago. The proposed program of work is designed to turn Grant Metrics into a simple but capable tool that will meet the metics needs of most event organizers—a “one-stop shop,” as one organizer called it, for getting the data that many organizers now laboriously assemble from multiple sources.
I’ve called the project laid out in the two posts reference above “ambitious but achievable,” and I think that’s a good description. Now it’s your turn again: does this direction look right? Is there anything we can add that would make it work better for you? And—since it’s possible we won’t get to everything—are there any features here you think we could drop or put on our low-priority list? If you have ideas or questions, now is the time to bring them forward. We’re listening!

Hi Vahid,
Thanks for this email. However, I have two concerns
1. Can a term other than "dashboard admin" be used to describe this role?
The term "admin" has other uses already, and I am concerned about the
potential for confusion, including among people who are communicating in
English as a second language. Also, with the NDA requirement this position
sounds more like a functionary role than an admin role, which I think is
another reason for using a term other than "dashboard admin". Perhaps
"dashboard functionary" or "dashboard technical support specialist" would
be clearer. What do you think?
2. I am also concerned about adding yet more work to the already
significant load that is being carried by volunteers. Given that WMF has
ample financial resources to address an incremental increase in support
needs, I think that WMF should be capable of handling support requests and
generating reports for the Dashboard without asking volunteers to increase
the already considerable scope of our work.
Thank you,
Pine

Hello Programs & Events Dashboard users community!
The Programs & Events Dashboard has proven itself to be a key tool for many
community organizers, including Program Leaders that work in the fields of
education, GLAM, edit-a-thons, and in Affiliates.
As this tool matures, it is becoming necessary to make sure that it has the
community support it needs. One of the aspects of this is to formalize a
group of Dashboard Admins that can help the community by providing it with
basic support when needed.
We are therefore calling for volunteers that want to participate in this
field. Their expected responsibilities will cover the following:
-
Providing support to users and Affiliates
-
Monitoring & reporting on the use of the Dashboard
Dashboard Admins, like many other roles in the the Wikimedia community will
be required to sign a Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the Wikimedia
Foundation, in order to ensure that data privacy policies are respected by
all.
Ideally, we want to cover all “major” languages, as well as all the
languages that actively use the P&E Dashboard.
All Admins will be required to take a (short) online training [1] on how to
be Admins, besides demonstrating knowledge on how to use the Dashboard.
The selection process will be as follows:
1.
Sign up to indicate your interest
2.
Take the online training [1]
3.
A selection committee composed of Vahid Masrour and Sage Ross will
select the first cohort of Admins.
If you think you can assist the movement by performing this function,

Best Regards,
Vahid.

Hello colleagues,
I'm not familiar enough with Wikisource to evaluate this guide, but I'm
forwarding it in case others are interested. Please direct questions and

Dear All,
We all know that Wikisource is one of the trending Wikimedia projects. We
are getting many new editors and new books to Indic language Wikisource's.
At the same time, we even noticed that there are many problems faced by the
new editors and a few of the existing editors. To help all of the editors
we have created a Handbook titled as *Wikisource Handbook for Indic
communities
<
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikisource_Handbook_for_Indian_Comm…
>.
*Which is now available[1] to everyone to make the best use of it. I
request everyone to share this with all those who are in need of support in
editing Wikisource.
Authors of the book: Bodhisattwa Mandal and Ananth Subray P V.

A few weeks back we asked event organizers for ideas about the event metrics they need [1]. We got a lot of great ideas that the CommTech team and I studied carefully. The result, which I’ve just posted on wiki, is a proposal for an ambitious yet achievable set of metrics tools and new reports. The ideas are presented in two parts: the first post describes new metrics features at a high level [2]; the second lists the data types and specific reports we're proposing in detail.
i invite event organizers of all types to review these ideas and please provide your feedback. Did we hit the right balance? What is missing? Please help us help you. We’re listening!

Wikimedia Sverige is proud to be the recipient of $324,500 in support from
the Swedish Postcode Foundation for our project FindingGLAMs
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/FindingGLAMs>.
We will work in collaboration with UNESCO and the Wikimedia Foundation to
achieve a number of ambitious goals over the 15 month long project. We will
work to:
- Collect and include data about GLAM[1] institutions around the world
on Wikidata (e.g. where they are located). This will be done both through a
campaign and from batch uploads of datasets;
- Batch upload collections of media files, in collaboration with the
Structured Data on Commons program;
- Organize networks of experts to discuss issues with disseminating
different types of material through the Wikimedia projects;
- Create a white paper consisting of a number of case studies based on
the work and discussions outlined above;
- Communicate about the Wikimedia movement’s work with GLAMs at
conferences;
- Organize a number of activities both on- and offline to use the
material. This include some work around Wikimania 2019 that will take place
in Stockholm, Sweden.
We hope many of you would like to get involved in the project and work with
us to connect to GLAM partners in your countries. At this point we are
looking for your help to identify institutions that maintain lists of GLAM
institutions (similar to the collection of monuments lists for WLM) and
later to identify GLAM institutions with specific types of collections that
would like to work with the Wikimedia movement.
Please contact the project manager John Andersson (
john.andersson(a)wikimedia.se) if you have any questions. If you are
interested to take part, please sign up on the project portal at Meta:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/FindingGLAMs
As always, you can find the full application on our wiki (in Swedish):
https://se.wikimedia.org/wiki/Projekt:FindingGLAMs_2018/Ansökan
[1] GLAM is an acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums.
We look forward working with you!
Best regards,
John

When you hear the word metadata, do you think of cell phone records, or of a whole world of knowledge waiting to be linked and discovered? Stanford University Libraries and the Linked Data for Production (LD4P) project<http://www.ld4p.org> are seeking someone who is passionate about libraries and about bringing library data to the world, to serve as our Wikimedian-in-Residence.
As a widely used source of structured data, Wikidata has the potential to be a platform for publishing, linking, and enriching library metadata. The Wikimedian-in-Residence will play a key role in enabling the Wikimedia community and the library community to enrich each other’s pool of knowledge.
Alex Stinson, GLAM-Wiki Strategist at the Wikimedia Foundation, explains the importance of this role: "We are seeing a growing body of interest among different library communities, both in North America, Europe, and other parts of the world in figuring out how libraries should be involved in using Wikidata. The LD4P project and this role provide a well-supported environment for creating experiments within the actual central work of research libraries, to figure out what works and doesn't and how technology can be improved to support such collaboration."
