Hi. I've just joined this mailing list and figured I should introduce myself.
I'm the community manager for Wikimedia's engineering efforts and I'm the US-born daughter of Indian immigrants. I'm an advisory board member of the Ada Initiative and I launched Wikimedia's participation in the Outreach Program for Women internships in open source https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Outreach_Program_for_Women. I've worked for the Wikimedia Foundation for about two years.
You might enjoy the keynote address I gave at Open Source Bridge last year http://adainitiative.org/2012/06/sumana-harihareswaras-be-bold-an-origin-story-keynote-at-open-source-bridge/, in which I talked about factors in my upbringing that prepared me for or discouraged me from participation in free culture projects.
And in my spare time, the article I'm updating is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulsi_Gabbard . :-)
Thanks for hosting and participating in this discussion.
Hi Sumana,
