Hi all -
I hate to clutter up your inbox with another mail tangentially related to
the Chelsea Manning stuff, but there's an ongoing RfC on the English
Wikipedia that essentially asks whether or not trans people should be
referred to by their preferred pronoun during period of the life before
they made public statements that they are trans.
Since I know this list has a lot of people knowledgeable on gender issues,
I figured it would be a good place to throw it out to (most relevant
wikiprojects have already been notified as far as I can tell.) If this is
an area where you have knowledge (preferably knowledged back by sources,)
please chime in at the RfC, however you feel.

Another day, another
example<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrators%27_not…>of
casual sexism exhibited by en.wikipedia editors who mean absolutely no
harm, but simply don't understand how they could cause harm while meaning
none. I seem to
have<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard#Anothe…>caused
significant alarm and offense to a number of male editors be
publicly pointing out that I found the comment inappropriate.
Was there a better way to handle this? I can't help feeling that saying
nothing or hatting the section would have been supporting the notion that
it's either not a problem or not remarkable for male editors to make
comments encouraging others to comment on female editors' bodies.
