Hello, I clicked on the Article alerts in this WikiProject and noticed new articles are not included. Does anyone know how to add new articles to this list? Also, I noticed their are zero interwiki links for this WikiProject. Does this mean that the project does not exist in any other language, or is there just a lack of interwiki links? Thanks if these are dumb questions, I am new to this WikiProject and to this list. Jane

Continuing in the theme of documenting and highlighting the involvement of women around the world, their coverage and participation on Wikimedia projects… today I'm posting about Algeria. If you speak Arabic, help improving this would be much appreciated. The country does not have a Wikimedia chapter<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_chapters> and there do not appear to be active efforts to create one. Wikipedia appears to have a lack of content related to Algerian women and a lack of participation of Algerian women while representing sizable populations in several different Wikipedia communities. Algergians represent sizable parts of the viewing community on several different language Wikipedia, including 8.7% of all Arabic readers, 1.6% French Wikipedia readers, 11.4% Kabyle Wikipedia readers, and 4.9% of all Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia readers.[6]<http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageViewsPerLanguage…> Content about Algerian women's sport is limited on several different language Wikipedia. There are 0 articles about Algerian models<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Female_models> on English Wikipedia. While there are many articles about men's sport in Algeria <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sport_in_Algeria> on English Wikipedia, there is not a single category about Algerian women's sport.‎ In the national sport team category<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:National_sports_teams_of_Algeria>, there are thirteen articles about men's teams and only two articles about national women's teams: Algeria women's national basketball team<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algeria_women%27s_national_basketball_team> and Algeria women's national handball team<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algeria_women%27s_national_handball_team>. There are no Algerians, male or female, who have been on English Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Arbitration_Committee_Elections_Dece…>. Coverage and participation of Algerian women is limited. Algerian women do not appear to be engaged with Wikinews in English or Portuguese. There are no female administrators on English wikinews from this country <http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Administrators>, nor are there any women from this country who are English wikinews accredited reporters <http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Credential_verification>. On Portuguese Wikinews<http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/n:P%C3%A1gina_principal>, there are no women active from this country. This makes sense as neither language is one of the major ones in Algeria. Global perspectives on women and Wikimedia projects: Bangladesh

Those that they do have do not contribute on a consistent, regular basis; they edit sporadically. In Bangladesh, women often attend events by the Chapter and others in the country. There are female participants who attend every meet-up. Most of the time, these are new faces and there is a problem in getting the same women to consistently show up to events in order to build up a regular base of active female participants. Currently Wikimedia Bangladesh <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Bangladesh> has no female members in the board. The board is planning to find a woman from the country to be a a Bengali participant in at WikiWomenCamp in Argentina. In December 2011, there were 1,700 women of all ages from Bangladesh who were interested in Wikipedia on Facebook.[1]<https://www.facebook.com/ads/create/> 0.06% of all Wikipedia traffic comes from Bangladesh.[2]<http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageViewsPerCountryB…> Most editors in Bangladesh edit the Bengali Wikipedia but 91.1% view English Wikipedia. There are many articles about Bengali actresses on the Bengali Wikipedia. These articles were mostly created by male contributors. There is an effort by a Bengali editor to take the Bengali language article about Angelina Jolie<http://bn.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A6%85%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%AF%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%9E%…> to Featured. As of December 2011, there are zero featured articles about women on Bengali Wikipedia. There are two articles about female sport people: an athlete and a chess player. There are 10 articles about female film actresses from Bangladesh<http://bn.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%B7%E0%A6%AF%E0%A6%BC%…>, 10 articles about female television actresses from Bangladesh, 3 articles about female Bangladeshi stage actresses and 13 articles about Bangladeshi singers. On Bengali Wikipedia, there are 4 articles about Bangladeshi social workers<http://bn.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%B7%E0%A6%AF%E0%A6%BC%…>, 3 of whom women. The amount of women specific content in Bengali, and Bangaldeshi women content, is limited. The Bengali word for User is gender neutral; the name space does not indicate the gender of the user on Wikimedia projects. On English Wikipedia, there are 11 articles<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Bangladeshi_women_in_politics> women in politics, 4 articles<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Bangladeshi_feminists> about Bangladeshi feminists‎. There are 0 articles about women's basketball teams<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Category:Women%27s_basketball_teams> in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 0 articles about women's basketball teams<http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat%C3%A9gorie:Club_de_basket-ball_f%C3%A9minin> in this country on French Wikipedia. There are 0 articles about women's basketball teams<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:%E5%A5%B3%E5%AD%90%E3%83%90%E3%82%B9%…> in this country on Japanese Wikipedia. Bangladeshi women do not appear to be given much coverage on non-Bengali Wikipedia. This is for several reasons, including a lack of participation of women in certain categories, language issues that make it difficult to report on Bangladeshi women, and a general lack of interest in existing contributors in covering their issues. This may be a result of several factors, including the language and because Portuguese Wikinews only has an active editing community of five people, one of whom is a woman. There is one woman who has contributed to the language incubator<http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page> who uses Bengali <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengali_language>. She made one edit and is the only Bengali speaker to make an edit on incubator. Pimp

Hi everyone, I'm doing a bit of fiddling with some articles related to sexuality and came across an article about a madam [[Polly Adler]]. The word "madam" was linked to [[pimp]]. While the article opens mentioning that a woman who runs a brothel is called a madam, it's an extremely male dominated article and focuses on the violent and sordid world of "being a pimp," for lack of better words. I, frankly, would /love/ to see madam have it's own article. Perhaps we should discuss it on the "pimp" page or just BE BOLD. (I don't have time to start a well fleshed out madam article, but, I'd be interested in perhaps collaborating with others to do it.) If you have the time and knowledge, it would be fantastic if you could help fill in the details about your own county: What are historical membership totals in your home chapter? What has the historical female presence on your chapter's board been? How well are women's topics related to your country covered? Perspectives on Wikimedia Women in New Zealand

In preparing for WikiWomenCamp, the organisers are seeking assistance in documenting women's involvement around the world with Wikimedia projects. This will serve as a benchmark, will allow the movement to know about its success and determine where it has room to grow. New Zealand has several female Wikimedians who do everything from new page patrol to content-building. A few of them have been involved in editing Wikimedia projects for several years. New Zealand editors on the English Wikipedia often communicate through a national noticeboard, their national WikiProject and, much less frequently, at meetups. Auckland has hosted six meetups. At the first in June 2006, three of eight participants were women. At the second meetup, two of the eight participants were women; at the third in August 2007, two of twelve were women. At the fourth in October 2008, none of the five people attending were women. At the fifth in May 2010, two of the eight participants were women, as were two of the six people who attended in April 2011. (See w:Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland> .) New Zealand editors are less visible on other projects, and in many cases the few Kiwis are male. On the Simple English Wikipedia, the only active New Zealander is a female administrator; articles related to topics of national interest are rarely kept up to date by regular editors, often relying on drive-by edits from en.wikipedia editors. On the English Wikibooks, the book on New Zealand history is a featured book. However, much of the NZ-related content is contributed by anonymous editors or editors from other projects who write a book but do not become an active part of the community. On the English Wikinews, there have been active New Zealand editors at various points in the project's history. There is also a Māori Wikipedia, which has a low level of participation but is a stable project. English Wikipedia has few visible, highly active female Kiwi contributors. One of them updates articles related to women's sport, especially netball <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/netball>, in New Zealand. She also helps maintain Australian netball articles. Another is involved as a wiki gnome, helping to clean up articles and assisting new users with getting articles passed through articles for creation<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation> . The only New Zealander to get a participation grant from Wikimedia Australia<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Australia> to attend RecentChangesCamp 2012 is female. She will be the first Kiwi to attend RecentChangesCamp in Australia, the third time it has been held in the country. In 2011, there was a small push by Australians and one or two Kiwis to try to establish a national chapter in the country. Two of the people who were approached as potential leaders included women, one of whom was the head of Creative Commons New Zealand. Content wise, there are seventeen featured articles in Wikiproject New Zealand<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:FA-Class_New_Zealand_articles>. Only one, an article about Queen Victoria<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Victoria> is about a woman. There are four featured lists<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:FL-Class_New_Zealand_articles>, none of which feature women. Good articles are somewhat better: four of forty-one articles<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:GA-Class_New_Zealand_articles> feature women: Elizabeth II <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_II>, Jenny Morris <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenny_Morris_(musician)>, Love in Motion (Anika Moa album)<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_in_Motion_(Anika_Moa_album)> and Joanne Gair <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joanne_Gair>. In comparison, there are twelve articles that feature men.
