Women in Red is hosting a virtual editathon from February 1 to 15, 2016,
on Black Women's History on the English Wikipedia.
Anyone can take part whatever their previous experience. We hope both
new and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies of some of
the many past and present notable black women who are still red-linked
on the English Wikipedia. The virtual edit-a-thon allows enthusiasts
from around the globe to participate in the work.
The main goals of the edit-a-thon are:
* to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can
contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's
most prominent women
* to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for
concerted action on a specific area
* to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the
coverage of women and women's works

About Women in Red : WikiProject Women in Red (WiR) has for objective to
turn redlinks into blue ones within the scope of women's biographies and
women's works, broadly construed. Did you know that fewer than 16% of
the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed?
"Content gender gap" is a form of systemic bias. This is the issue we
address at WiR. WiR host edit-a-thons once or twice a month on various
topics and invite you to participate whenever you wish. There is no
requirement to participate in every one, or to even sign up. If you'd
like to create women's biographies and articles about women's works, WiR
will warmly welcome you!
