Hi Folks at WIScom,
It's been more than two weeks since Ingo requested clarifications on the
structure of the steering committee. Can someone from the committee respond
to these request for clarification?
It's unwise to keep mute when a legitimate questions are asked.
I look forward to reading your response.
Thank you,
Isaac

Hi everyone,
I'm Lodewijk and one of the organizers of Wiki Loves Monuments in the
international team. We have been looking for more ways to make Wiki Loves
Monuments an even greater success in Africa!
If you're interested in helping Wiki Loves Monuments be more of a success
in Africa by sharing or learning, and if you're participating in Wikimania
this year, I would suggest that you consider joining the 'Making Wiki Loves
Monuments thrive in Africa' meetup on Saturday during Wikimania, from
18:00-19:00.
See for more information here:
https://wikimania2018.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Effeietsanders/Make_Wiki_Love…
You can also sign up there, so that we know what and who to expect :)
If you can't be there, you can still leave some suggestions or thoughts on
that page to consider.
Best,
Lodewijk
Hi all,
This job is very relevant to organizers and community members on the
African and Indian lists, and the WikiSource community. Do try to share the
listing with folks you think would be interested.
Cheers,
Alex

Subject: New GLAM and Underrepresented Heritage role at the Wikimedia

Hi All,
I am really excited to share with you the opening of a new job working
within the Programs Team at the Wikimedia Foundation: a Program Officer
focused on GLAM and Underrepresented Heritage.
As part of orienting our team to better support the Wikimedia Movement
direction, we hope this role can help us to better support tactics and
strategies that are becoming important among emerging communities wanting
to get involved in GLAM programs -- including, for example, leveraging
digitization, WikiSource and Wiki Loves type events to document
marginalized knowledge. They will be working closely with our existing GLAM
team, including Alex Stinson and Sandra Fauconnier, to document and expand
the impact of GLAM partnership in the movement, and to help us advance the
larger Equity and Infrastructure goals of the movement direction.
We also hope that this role helps our team build increased depth of
experience with Wikimedia communities outside of North America and Europe,
where existing GLAM communities have a strong community of practice and
from which Sandra and Alex (and Ben, the Programs team director) have deep
backgrounds.
If you know someone who is enthusiastic about or has deep experience
facilitating GLAM-Wiki or similar community initiatives, please share the
job announcement with them: https://boards.greenhouse.io/

Cheers,
Alex

Hello Wikimedians in Africa :-)
I'm happy to announce the launch of the Inspire Campaign on Measuring
Community Health.[1] The goal of this campaign is to gather your ideas on
approaches to measure or evaluate the experience and quality of
participating and interacting with others in Wikimedia projects.
So what is community health? Healthy projects promote high quality content
creation, respectful collaboration, efficient workflows, and effective
conflict resolution. Tasks and experiences that result in patterns of
editor frustration, poor editor retention, harassment, broken workflows,
and unresolved conflicts are unhealthy for a project.
As a movement, Wikimedians have always measured aspects of their
communities. Data points, such as editor activity levels, are regularly
collected. While these metrics provide some useful indications about the
health of a project, they do not give major insights into challenges and
specific areas needing improvement or what areas have been successful.
We want to hear from you what specific areas on your Wikimedia project
should be evaluated or measured, and how it should be done. Share your
ideas, contribute to other people’s submissions, and get involved in the
new Inspire Campaign. After the campaign, grants and other paths are
available to support the formal development of these measures and
evaluation techniques.[2]
Warm regards,
Sydney

Hello everyone
We are working very hard to make a demo/testing V2 version of WikiFundi
available at Wikimania.
This time, there will be several release options.
Some will include only WikiFundi and WikiFundi related resources (that
minimal version that should fit on a 24 or 32 GB card.
We will put both English and French versions on those. But one type will
come up with a overarching interface in French, whilst the other type
will come up with overaching interface in English).
We have a budget to provide a certain number of those cards to the
wikimedia communities. We will provide those for free (within budget...)
Others release will include a more complete version with WikiFundi and
several resources (such as offline Wikipedia, Wikiquote, wikisource,
Wiktionary, Vikidia in French, WikiMed, the French Wikimooc videos...)
but those will come either
* only in French (content, interface, wikifundi software),
* or only in English (content, interface, wikifundi software)
Those versions will fit on bigger cards. The English is likely to fit in
a 128 GB, which is more difficult to find and more expensive. The French
perhaps on a 64 GB. Cards have not been done yet, so we are not
completely sure :)
Those versions are not available for free (should you be interested, you
need to provide the card or the cost of the card + shipping costs if it
needs to be shipped). I will provide more info about this just before
Wikimania.
I propose to come to Wikimania with some cards with the *WikiFundi only
versions* that will come to replace the version 1. I actually need to
purchase the cards... today or tomorrow at latest :)
*If you are interested by a card with a simple WikiFundi V2 version ,
please drop me an email (Tanzania and Uganda, I already counted you in). *
As a reminder for newcomers... WikiFundi works with a raspberry PI 3.
If you already have one, you simply need to get a new card to get the
thing working on your usual Raspberry PI 3.
If you do NOT have a raspberry PI 3, you will need to get one.
In any cases, I will come to Wikimania with a whole set for demo purposes.
Flo
