Hi all,
We are all aware of Newbie biting. One editor by User name Lokesha kunchadka
<https://kn.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B2%B8%E0%B2%A6%E0%B2%B8%E0%B3%8D%E0%B2%AF…>
who
is indulging in Newbie biting in Kannada and Tulu Wikipedias from almost
last 2-3 months. He was issued a warning by the admin in Kannada Wikipedia,
link is here
<https://kn.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B2%B8%E0%B2%A6%E0%B2%B8%E0%B3%8D%E0%B2%AF…>
.
I have been conducting Diversity Editathons from last 3 months. One of the
major aims of these editathons is to bring more women editors. Before the
new editor completes the article this person jumps in and adds templates to
imply the article is not of good quality. The new editors, especially the
women editors, are scared to continue editing because of this newbie
biting. Apart from this I had written an article on 13th October 2019 with
the template Under constriction for which he commented saying there is no
such topic. I was planning to complete the article with reference to the
title today.
I would like to hear suggestions from experienced people on how do deal
with this kind of situation.

Dhanalakshmi K T

Greetings!
We have exciting news to share with you all.
CIS-A2K is going to collaborate with WWWW 2019 and Wikipedia Asian Month
2019. Most of the Indic communities took part in these events in the
previous iterations. Fortunately this year, all three contests are
happening at the same time.
Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) is being held every year since 2015. Its agenda
is to increase Asian content on Wikipedia. There is no requirement for
selecting an article from the list provided. Any topic related to Asia can
be chosen to write. This contest runs from 1 November till 30 November.
For more rules and guidelines, you can follow the event page on Meta or
local Wikis.
WWWW (Wiki Women for Women Wellbeing) started in 2018 with an aim to
increase content related to women's health issues on Indic language
Wikipedias.
WWWW 2019 will start from 1 November 2019 and will continue till 10 January
2020.
A common list of articles will be provided to write on.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in these contests. Articles created
under any of these events can be submitted to the fountain tool of Project
Tiger 2.0. Article creation rule will remain the same which is 300 words
and 6,000 bytes for all languages except for Urdu which requires 3000 bytes.
Happy editing :D

Hi,
I am happy to inform you all that Wikidata WikiProject India has won the
Wikidata Award for Community Building this year. The award was declared
during WikidataCon 2019 in Berlin. Thanks to the power users and regular
contributors from all over India participating in the project in different
ways, without whom this would have not been possible. Special thanks to
Asaf, Mahir and Tito, who have played extremely crucial roles in
development of this project.

Hello all,
As you know, Google and Wikimedia Foundation collaborated to work on
bridging the knowledge gap, and support the growth of Indic language
Wikipedias through Project Tiger. The effort started in 2018, with the
first Tiger pilot, and continues with running the current Tiger 2.0. As
part of Project Tiger 1.0 pilot, 50 Chromebooks, and internet stipends,
were given as support to experienced and deserving Wikimedians, in order to
help eliminate any obstacles that editors may face due to technology or
resources. As part of the community consultation carried out to evaluate
the Tiger pilot, and to better inform the planning of Tiger 2.0, one
community feedback was about Chromebooks and their usability, and the fact
that using laptop machines, would have been a better option. As per
community feedback, Chromebooks haven't been the most efficient or most
familiar to communities, and so exploring the purchase of laptop devices
has been considered, as an adaptation and localization, for Tiger 2.0. The
India pilot consultation informed the decision of hardware support for
Tiger 2.0 in India, and was also inspiring to focus on local community
preferences and adaptations in different countries where the overall project
GLOW <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Project_GLOW> is running. Hence this
year, Wikimedians selected for support, (which was initially named
Chromebook support) will get ACER laptops, to help them quickly start
editing, instead of investing time, while onboarding a new device. We hope
it will be more efficient for Wikipedians. Moving forward, we will get more
effective feedback or suggestions from communities about important aspects.
Communities’ responses are most important for growing a movement. As
mentioned, different countries and communities running GLOW, are as well
making their localized decisions about the best hardware support to provide
to the community, so that GLOW support is more relevant.
Our sincere apologies as the process is getting late but the hardware
support will be provided soon.
Hey all,
Tomorrow on October 22, we will be running another brief three-hour test.
Our work on improving our infrastructure is ongoing but we've made a number
of technical fixes and improvements behind the scenes. During each test, we
also aim to test content as we look to adapt our international messaging to
India. As we move towards the campaign next year, we will be looking for
ideas to test in our messaging so keep a lookout for future opportunities
to give feedback.
For tomorrows test:
* If you need to report a bug or technical issue, please create a
phabricator ticket [
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/edit/form/1/?template=1188…
].
* If you see a donor on a talk page, OTRS or social media having
difficulties in donating, please refer them to donate(a)wikimedia.org.
* If you have specific ideas to share, please feel invited to add them to
our fundraising ideas page [

Many Thanks
