Hello fellow Indian Wikimedians.
I am writing to you to announce that the translatewiki.net December 2009
translation rally is about to start. If you make 500 or more new translations
before the end of the year (31 December 2009 24:00 UTC), you can share in the
1,000 Euro bounty. I have high hopes that many users speaking languages from
India will be able to donate a few hours of their time translating into
languages spoken in India. Details are at
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Project:Rally-2009-12.
We are especially looking for translators in the following languages, but
translations in all languages are very welcome:
* Oriya
* Sindhi
* Punjabi
* Gujarati
* Kannada
* Tamil
* Nepali
* Marathi
* Hindi
* Bengali
See
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Project:MediaWiki_localisation_in_the_50_most…
for current localization details on the 50 largest spoken languages, of which
many are from India/Asia. Asian languages score below average on localization
level, and improving this is a gift we can give the Wikimedia Foundation for
"free"!
Many thanks for your help. Especially for Wikimedia India we can make it
possible to have supporters donate their cut of the bounty to Wikimedia India
if that is something that will help your chapter! I would appreciate an
'official' contacting me in that case.
Cheers!

HiAll the crows of world have same sound, all the dogs in the world bark and every dog can understand that. But not with mankind. This is because of the creative. Creativity is a natures gift to mankind. Every language has few peculiar words which have many meanings the correct one is implied by the tone of the word. The best examples are Ayya (in marathee) or poda (similar to get lost but much more effective). Can you replace ayya by anything?? (I doubt)Even English as a native language is different in different countries. The usage, pronunciation, dialect and usage changes from country to country to country, (UK, USA and Australia). Another aspect of the language is it changes with the time. It collects the vocabulary from other languages with some changes or as it is. We never use "thou" now a
days even whom is less in use. Jai ho or Guru is accepted in english dictionary.Knowledge available in english is mind blowing, but the contribution is there from non english speaker. They adopted the language for access to the knowledge data base or to reach to the vast audience. I agree with the beauty in diversity
regards,

Role of english languge in economics and economic growth Share
The beauty of this world is in it's diversity, we can make standards for the machines because they won't get bored of accepting input always in same, say XML, format. Surely we need a better world, but it has to be beautiful. There are many aspects to look at this issue, but core is language must evolve and all should exist together!
Yes, English has a major role to play in this economics driven world, but Englishizing every things isn't logical!

It was quite a successful talk with a fairly large audience .
We would like to thank Atul Chitnis and the other FOSS.in organizers for
giving us this opportunity.
Thanks
Tinu Cherian
Today the world is very much in favour of adopting english language for
various reasons but one of the strong reasons for individuals and
families is dream of financial prosperity for themselves and their
children.
English language has got more storage of knowledge that helps upgrade
your skills and exposure levels, and it helps to communicate with
financially powerful to garner economic benefits like jobs etc and
business.
Since long I am in search of a linguist who can confirm and a show a
way to convert worlds seven billion human population into standard
english using population and also a way for humanity to sustain and
continue forever any such achievement that humanity keeps using the
same english language and does not go over to any linguistic
transformations again.
I am also in search of an economist who can confirm that demand for
english language skill is just unlimited and will ensure more and more
economic prosperity to every one even when whole of humanity is
converted in to english language speaking population
Last bust not least can medical fraternity help research and introduce
an ejection or a tablet to convert people into english language knowing
people.
Here I do not want to deny role english language has played in my own
life and it is also true that I am my self benefited out of english
language skills and knowledge.
Here I would like to bring to notice of my friends that when already
jobs of even native english speaking people got banglored, what happens
when whole of Chinese population becomes proficient in english language
is only that bangloreans will be in search of new phrase may be some
thing like my job is Shanghaied
Here I remember story of king of Midas who wanted every thing to be
turned into gold, Does not this story reminds me that having too much
of any thing and for that whole world running behind a single language
also may not be a best policy and there is need of revisiting our
thoughts about this aspect of life more sensibly.
I want my friends to discuss Role, benefits and limitation of adoption
of specific language for economic growth in individual human life as
well as micro and macro economics.
Wish you all season’s greetings
