I take immense pride in letting you know, Wiki Loves Monuments in
India would take place once again this year in India.
Wiki Loves Monuments is a global photo competition that takes place
generally in September. Wikimedia India would officially be organising this
competition in India.
The aim of the contest is to ask the general public—readers and users of
Wikipedia, photographers, hobbyists, etc.—to take pictures of cultural
heritage monuments and upload them to Wikimedia Commons for use on
Wikipedia and its other sister projects.
I request Indian community to help us make this event a grand success.
Please sign up as volunteers here

Hello,
We are glad to inform you that Asaf Bartov[1] will visit India in the month
of September 2017, and will be conducting local workshops on Wikidata and
other recent technologies and tools. You might be aware that Asaf is a
promoter and trainer of Wikidata, and before and during this year's
Wikimania, Indic Wikimedians from two communities requested Asaf to visit
India to conduct more Wikidata workshops.
The workshop would include extensive Wikidata training, from absolute
beginner level through querying and embedding Wikidata in Wikipedia (incl.
infoboxes), as well as a general tools demonstration, including Quarry.
Additionally, time would be made for general Q&A ("ask me anything") to let
people use the opportunity to directly ask a WMF representative anything
that they have on their mind.
Asaf would come to India on 29 September. Please see the detailed plan

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Global preferences: request for feedback
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi everyone,
The Community Tech team is currently working on Global preferences, the #4
wish from the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey, and we've got a question for
folks who are interested in using the feature.
We're adapting an extension developed by Legoktm, updating the code and
making some changes to the interface. There'll be a new special page,
Special:GlobalPreferences, where you'll be able to set a preference on all
wikis at once. There's more description and screenshots on the project
page:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Tech/Global_preferences
Our question is about how people might use local overrides for the global
preferences -- setting a preference as global, but making an exception for
one or more wikis. If that sounds like the kind of thing you would have an
opinion about :), then please check out this section:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Tech/Global_preferences#For_discu…
and leave some feedback on the talk page. Of course, you can also feel free
to post any questions, suggestions or comments about the feature. Thanks!
Danny Horn

Dear Wikimedians,
Greetings from CIS-A2K!
We are glad to inform that CIS-A2K has published our newsletter for the months of June and July 2017.
In June, we held our first regional Wikidata Workshop, “Wikidata Workshop: South India”, wherein existing Wikimedians from the five Southern states were given an introduction to Wikidata. CIS-A2K has also been working with the Annamayya Library in Guntur and in doing so, Tallapaka Pada Sahityam, a compilation of over fourteen thousand Telugu compositions is now being made available on Wikisource. In addition to supporting the Odia Wikipedians' Asian Athletics Championship Edit-a-thon, we also helped conduct a local diversity themed edit-a-thon in Satara, Maharashtra.
In July, an introductory Telugu Wikisource Workshop was held in Hyderabad in conjunction with NTR Trust. A Wikipedia orientation workshop was held for the students of V.P. Institute of Management Studies and Research, Sangli, Maharashtra who showed great interest in inculcating Wikipedia based assignments into their academic curriculum. In addition to facilitating the Punjabi Wikimedians' Wikimedia Strategy Meeting, CIS-A2K also hosted a template workshop for Kannada Wikimedians in Bengaluru.
Please read the complete newsletter here:

Hi everyone,
On behalf of the Wikimedia India Chapter, I am happy to announce that
User:Kvr.lohith from Telugu Wikipedia has been announced as the Featured
Wikimedian of the Month for August 2017. His profile is as follows:
*K. Venkata Ramana* is one the most active editors from Telugu Wikipedia,
under the alias Kvr.lohith
<https://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B0%B5%E0%B0%BE%E0%B0%A1%E0%B1%81%E0%B0%95…>.
Venkata Ramana hails from the Srikakulam District of Andhra Pradesh, and by
profession, is a Physical Science Assistant in a government school. Venkata
Ramana joined Wikipedia in May 2012, and initially started off editing
English Wikipedia. But soon he found his place in Telugu Wikipedia, and has
regularly contributing since then. As of August 2017, his global edits
count to 77,000. He is also an Administrator on Telugu Wikipedia.
Venkata Ramana loves to create biographies and science related articles on
Wikipedia. He advocates that it is the duty of every Wikipedian to get
familiar with the policies to Wikipedia and give good references to the
articles. Apart from his work on articles, Venkata has created many
templates that are helpful to many on Telugu Wikipedia. As said by his
fellow editor, Pavan Santosh
<https://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B0%B5%E0%B0%BE%E0%B0%A1%E0%B1%81%E0%B0%95…>,
Venkata Ramana is one of the few editors on Telugu Wikipedia striving hard
develop the quality rather than the quantity.
Apart from Wikipedia, Venkata Ramana's penchant to spread knowledge made
him start a blog titled Physical Science Forever
<http://physicalscience4ever.blogspot.in/> for school children, which was
visited by more than 3,00,000 times till date.
