Hi,
WMIN chapter president Rahul Deshmukh attended Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town
without being selected for any type of scholarship. My question is why was
he sent to the conference depriving other community members from India who
were in the waiting list.
He spoke in the informal chairpersons' meetup for few minutes. The meeting
doesn't require president of the organization's presence, and already there
were 2 EC member of WMIN present, who could have attended the meeting.
To me, this is utter misuse of power and abuse of donation money.
Thanks,
Bodhisattwa
Hello,
I recently saw an email from Odia Wikimedia that they are organising month
long editathons for Men's Hockey World Cup. This is a great initiative!
And also gave me the idea to do something similar in November. As many of
you may know Delhi
<https://www.firstpost.com/sports/womens-world-boxing-championships-to-start…>
will host the Women's World Boxing Championship from 15 - 24 November.
Could we all hold online and offline events around this topic editing and
creating pages of women boxers etc across several Indic languages.
I will definitely organise one Wikipedia editathon in Delhi in November on
this topic and would love if other people can join us and/or organise their
own in their language communities.
Tito/CIS, can we get some help for this?
Let me know your thoughts.
Best,
Japleen

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] The annual Community Wishlist Survey now open for
proposals
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>, Wikimedia
developers <wikitech-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hey everyone,
The Community Wishlist Survey is now open, and you can post proposals
for projects that you would like the Wikimedia Foundation's Community
Tech team to work on:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2019
The Community Tech team builds features and makes changes that active
Wikimedia contributors want, and the Wishlist Survey sets the team's
agenda for the next year.
The Wishlist Survey starts with a two-week proposal period, when
contributors from all Wikimedia projects are invited to post, discuss
and improve proposals. After that, there's a two-week voting period,
when everyone can post support-votes on the proposals.
You can post technical proposals until 11 November.
You can vote on proposals from 16 November to 30 November.
The Community Tech team is responsible for addressing the top ten
wishes on the list. If they, after investigating it, find that
something isn't feasible, they need to explain why to the community.
The Wishlist can also be used by volunteer developers and other teams,
who want to find projects to work on that the community really wants.

Hello Wikimedians,
This is to bring in your kind notice that on the basis of the ongoing
events in different communities, and after discussion with the organizers
of the event, we have decided to extend the date of the event till 24th
November 2018 11:59 p.m.
It was also observed that some people otherwise willing to join, could not
participate much in the event because of the complexity of the subject, so
for the extended period, we have expanded the theme and now have also
included social health. The list of articles have been updated on meta and
the same can be checked here-
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WWWW2018/List_of_articles
You are all expected to join hands with the women wikimedians from your
respective communities in bridging the gender gap.
Thanks & Regards,
Manavpreet Kaur

Hello all,
I am working on a new project pdf2text using Google VISION API.
This is easy on setup and hopefully can be ported to windows.
Check it for ubuntu here
https://github.com/KaniyamFoundation/Pdf2Text
Need help from windows users on setup.
Please read the issue here
https://github.com/KaniyamFoundation/Pdf2Text/issues/1
and install the required binaries for windows and try to setup the same.
Feel free to file more issues and enhancements.
Once the basic PDF to Text conversion is done, then we can add the
wikisource upload part as a separate project.

Dear all,
I am happy to inform you that through The Wikipedia Library, we now have a
premium online collaborative translation tool "Termsoup" available for
access to active users of any Wikimedia project (with demonstrated
translation experience or able to prove the need).
Termsoup is a translation tool with features to assist in translating
content, including a simple user interface, term translating, edit history,
and collaborative editing. It is a cloud-based platform that helps
translators and organisations to increase translation productivity. Though
Termsoup is not not a machine translation (MT), but they offer several MTs
for your reference. You can decide by yourself whether to use these TMs or
not.
You may apply for access at:
