Vandals are a real problem, but the really persistent pains in the backside will observably go to some technical lengths to prove we can't beat 'em. It's a social problem that isn't susceptible to a quick technical fix.

Indeed. The problem isn't those vandals who blank a few pages and then leave. The problem is people like Irismeister and POV pushers/trolls. These people have nothing better to do than waste their own and others' time persistently.
