Hi everyone,
(cross-posted to Cascadian and Canadian Wikipedia mailing lists)
An August long weekend get together is on, this Sunday from 10 to noon! We will meet at the designated picnic area at the north end of Queen Elizabeth Park, where the picnic table icon appears on this map: https://vancouver.ca/files/cov/queen-elizabeth-park-map(1).pdf . If you'd like to bring some snacks to share, that would be lovely. If not, don’t worry about it.
Everyone is welcome in accordance with the standard WMF Friendly Space Policy (https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Friendly_space_policy). Hope to see you there.
Cheers,
Su-Laine

Hi everyone,
Five terrific Wikipedians made it to last April’s meetup in Vancouver. We had a good informal gathering, and we would like to meet more regularly. The next Vancouver meetup will be on Sunday, June 9. We will meet at 10 AM at Kafka's Coffee and Tea, 2525 Main Street. I hope to see you there.
Jean-Philippe, if you could please put this on the Wikimedia Canada calendar, that would be great.
Cheers,
Su-Laine

Cascadia Wikimedians,
My apologies if you have already seen the forwarded email, & for not
getting this out sooner.
As a user group, Cascadia Wikimedians will have a vote in the next 1½
months for two of the Trustees on the Wikimedia Foundation's Board.
Here is the timeline of the process:
- Nominations from 15 to 30 April.
- Reviewing and screening by the community from 1 to 7 May.
- Voting for nominees by Affiliates from 8 to 31 May.
- Results by the end of June
"Each affiliate organization is responsible for selecting one person as its
voting delegate." I anticipate that the Wikimedia Cascadians board will
designate this person. Each user group will have a vote; there will be no
individuals voting in this election.
If you are interested, please review the material in the links below. Even
if you are not a member of Cascadia Wikimedians, we would like your input.
Before the nomination period closes, if anyone is interested in discussing
this, I could meet you at Cafe Allegro on one of the weeknights next week,
4/22 through 4/25, talk by phone or Zoom, or correspond by email. Let me
know by personal email if you are interested. I am not expecting that we as
a user group will nominate anyone; I am sure that there will be plenty of
qualified candidates.
I will schedule a meetup for Tuesday, May 14th, to discuss for whom we
should vote. If anyone needs to participate remotely, please let me know so
I can set up a Zoom call.
Yours,
Peaceray <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Peaceray>

Subject: [All-affiliates] ASBS 2019: Nominations now open
To: Wikimedia Affiliates <all-affiliates(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello everyone, and apologies for "cross-posting":
- The Resolution
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/Resolution_2…>
has
been approved
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Affiliate-selected_Board_…>
by the Board of Trustees;
- *Nominations phase is now open, from April 15 00:00 UTC to April 30
23:59 UTC. See the Call for Candidates
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/2019/Call_fo…>
and Nominations
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/2019/Nominat…>
pages*
;
- Community members may ask questions
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/2019/Questio…>
of
the candidates;
- Your main representative has just received an email to confirm that
they are indeed the primary contact and will perform official actions on
behalf of your group (such as endorsing candidates and then voting). Some
groups also need to verify their eligibility status in due time
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Reports>, as explained in the email;
- New content is available to spread awareness around the process - the
infographic I am attaching has clickable links and can be translated
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/2019/Infogra…>,
and a primer
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/2019/Primer_…>
is
available, that we hope will be particularly helpful to those new to such a
process;
- Finally, *you are welcome to help with translations*! Pick one page
from the ASBS category
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Affiliate-selected_Board_seats_201…>
and,
in the next couple of weeks, please consider translating profiles of the
candidates
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Affiliate-selected_Board_seats_201…>
in
particular.
Thanks for your attention from myself and the Facilitators for ASBS 2019,

Hi everyone,
I’m organizing an informal get-together in Vancouver for Sunday, April 14. It’s been a very long time since our last one.
We’ll meet at 10 AM at 49th Parallel Coffee, which is at 2902 Main Street (https://www.yelp.ca/biz/49th-parallel-coffee-vancouver-3). There’s no particular topic or agenda. I'm doing some research about Wikipedia group dynamics and would like to chat about your editing experiences, if anyone wants to share. If you can’t make it but can get together some other time, please let me know.
Hope to see some of you there :)
Cheers,
Su-Laine

Hello, first an apology; I have been away for conferences the last two
weekends, & the initial email notification came during the first, the
second during the second conference. I did not see this until yesterday
upon my return from the Wikimedia Summit 2019 in Berlin.
On Saturday, April 6, 2019 , 1–5pm, the Jacob Lawrence Gallery at the UW
Seattle campus is hosting an Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon. You can find details
at these links:
-
https://art.washington.edu/jacob-lawrence-gallery-calendar?trumbaEmbed=view…
- https://www.facebook.com/events/615621532236261/
After two weekends away, including travel to and from Berlin, I am planning
a quiet weekend with friends. If any of you in the Seattle area can come to
the edit-a-thon so that we can have a Cascadia Wikimedia presence and
experienced Wikipedians, that would be great! In particular, any one who
happens to have, or who can get, the Event Coordinator role might be
helpful.
I will add this event to the on-wiki Seattle meetup page this evening.
Yours,
Peaceray <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Peaceray>

Greetings! I am User:Groceryheist.
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Groceryheist>
I'm new to the list! Happy to be here!
I'm a graduate student at the University of Washington and I research
online collaboration. My PhD advisor is Benjamin Mako Hill,
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Benjamin_Mako_Hill> who you may know.
I'm writing to introduce myself, and also to invite you all to join my
class next quarter. You see, I'm teaching a class on online communities,
which was last taught by Mako in the Fall of 2015. As before, a
substantial part of this class has the students learning Wikipedia and
how to edit (using WikiEdu <wikiedu.org>). Last time, some of you
visited class to debrief with students about their experiences with
Wikipedia. I think that meeting Wikipedians in person can be a powerful
learning experience, and may increase the chances that students stay
involved with Wikipedia beyond the course. I hope that some of you
would be willing to come visit my class on Thursday February 14th at 1:15.
Thank you for your generosity!

At the annual meeting we were told that the financial statement would be
available in time for Board members to review it before the end of the
year and sign off. I realize we are just coming out of a holiday, but
there are only 5 days remaining in the year, 2 of which are another
holiday weekend. If the report has been posted, I don't see where.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cascadia_Wikimedians/2017_report still
says "To be posted."
