Hello all,
I'm planning on organizing a Wiki Loves Pride 2016 event in June in Seattle
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Loves_Pride_2016
I've spoken with librarians at the Fremont branch and have seen their
meeting room there. It's a beautiful and fully equipped room with seating
for up to 55 people.
http://www.spl.org/locations/fremont-branch
I'm hoping to organize this on a day I can get off work so the day is yet
to be determined, but will probably be "all day."
Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved, and we can
start a separate thread.
On another note, I will be hopefully attending Seattle Pride on June 26th
and hope to take pictures for commons, as I did in 2014 (see pics here)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle/Wiki_Loves_Pride_2014
Contact me if you want to join to help photograph the event.
Cheers,
Dorothy

Hi folks,
I'm wondering if there would be interest in a WikiExpedition hike on
Memorial Day weekend. The concept is that we'd do the hike and
document/photograph it and the surrounding landmarks, vegetation, wildlife,
and other notable elements. We could add this information to Wikipedia,
Wikidata, Commons, Wikispecies, and Wikimedia projects. Would anyone else
be interested?

Hello,
I think that readers of the Cascadia mailing list heard that earlier in the
year, a Wikipedia conference was considered for Seattle, and that now,
conference planning is solidifying to be held in San Diego from Friday -
Sunday 7-9 October.
I am writing to request that people in Cascadia support conference planning
by responding to the following 3-minute survey.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/wikieventfeedback
The conference planning team needs some feedback based on previous
conferences to assist in planning this next conference. Getting only a few
more responses would be very helpful. I hope that any upcoming conference
can be useful for people who attend in person and also produce videos,
notes, and participation options for people who would join remotely.
Thanks to anyone who can support.
Only for those who want more information -
-------------------
Hardly anything is published or certain about the San Diego conference. San
Diego is being considered because of (1) support commitments from local
volunteer event organizers (2) commitments from local people and
organizations to attend (3) promise of cheap or maybe free conference
venue. The location of conferences is mostly decided by availability of
local volunteer labor and matching cost to what the Wikimedia Foundation
will fund.
Minimal details on the planned San Diego conference are at
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiConference_USA>
This would be the page to bookmark for when more details are available, or
just watch for mailing list announcements.
Wikimedia Foundation support for the conference will be requested in a
grant request based on this older draft request for the Seattle conference.
I am sharing this as the information that I have, but this is totally
outdated, and this San Diego conference would be funded in a way that is
50%+ different.

Hi folks,
After we have our hike on the 5/30 holiday (weather permitting), would it
be ok if we have our regular meetup on the eastside? I know that Joe can't
attend, but I'm thinking that an eastside meetup will be much closer to
Evans Creek Preserve than Cafe Allegro would be, which might make logistics
easier for those who plan to attend both the hike and the evening meeting.
Thoughts?

Hello,
I wanted to make an on-wiki place to host discussion of the tool so I set
up this project page on meta.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Tools_for_Google_Spreadsheets>
This is an interesting tool. I have been playing with it for some weeks
trying to learn whether it could be used to generate monthly traffic
reports for sets of Wikipedia articles. Among editors of Wikipedia's
medical articles, there is continual discussion about monthly article
traffic for certain sets of articles, and I think that somehow this tool
could be used to get those reports for health articles in different
languages.
If anyone wants to join me in discussing the tool then write me or meet me
on that wiki page.
yours,

FYI, the 'Seattle Security' Meetup just got rebooted, new owner is
starting with hike. It isn't Wikipedia-centric, but you could probably
encourage attendees to help with Wikimedia Commons images, or OSM
metadata, etc. Plus, it's a hike, not sitting indoors.

We're a week out from our Hacker Hike in Discovery Park! We'll meet at
the Nature Center parking lot where I'll have a sign. I'm thinking
we'll do the 3 mile ring trail, but if anyone wants to do something
different, let me know! Also, afterwards I'm thinking we'll go to
Serendipity Lounge (not the cafe portion) in Magnolia Village where we
can get some drinks and decide what our future events will be! Again,
let me know if you have any suggestions for what you'd like to do as a
group!

Hi folks,
Please participate in this Doodle poll
<http://doodle.com/poll/2nd38gbhp6n4m672> to indicate your availability for
the May meeting of US Wikimedians. (Canadians are welcome to join if they
wish!)
An early version of the agenda is here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WALRUS/May_2016>. Some of these items will
be discussed in greater detail than others. You can add items to the
agenda, and if you do this then please sign your name by the added item.
The Zoom <http://www.zoom.us> meeting platform got a favorable reception
when we tried it last month, so we'll use it again. We'll aim to keep the
meeting to 40 minutes in length.
Thanks!
Pine
