Hi folks,
I'm wondering if there would be interest in a WikiExpedition hike on
Memorial Day weekend. The concept is that we'd do the hike and
document/photograph it and the surrounding landmarks, vegetation, wildlife,
and other notable elements. We could add this information to Wikipedia,
Wikidata, Commons, Wikispecies, and Wikimedia projects. Would anyone else
be interested?

Hi Cascadians,
We'll meet at Cafe Allegro at 6 on Monday. Hopefully we will hear updates
about WikiConference USA 2016 planning, and hear a report about WMCON from
Peaceray.
I hope to see you there.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi folks,
Just a heads-up that I'm having a discussion with WMF about the possibility
of Cascadia receiving a WMF trademark license to enable the production of
Wikipedia-themed hats and beanbag chair covers that can be available for
purchase at WikiConference USA 2016. These will probably be optional add-on
items when people purchase their conference registrations. There has been a
small but enthusiastic discussion on Facebook regarding the proposal for
beanbag chairs (:
Cheers,
Pine
Hi Cascadians,
Lane and Ray had a good call with the WMF last week about funding for
WikiConference USA 2016 in Seattle.
For next steps, and to show this conference has broad support, we would
like to have the interest of people from different backgrounds documented
as endorsements on the grant:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:PEG/Cascadia_Wikimedians/WikiConfere…
If you can, please include if you are able to serve on the program
committee or as an in-person volunteer, or in any other capacity.
Thanks,
Pharos

Hi folks,
We'll meet on Thursday, April 28 at 5 PM Pacific / 8 PM Eastern.
* We will try a meeting tool called Zoom instead of Google Hangouts. The
participant cap will be 50 people (: Please sign up for an account on
www.zoom.us and then take a look at
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362033-Getting-Started-on-PC-a…
* We'll use the Zoom time limit of 40 minutes to encourage ourselves to be
efficient with time. With that goal in mind, here's our tentative agenda:
5:00-5:15: Introductions and reports from chapters and groups. We'll divide
the time evenly. Please plan to have 1 minute per group, and please prepare
your intro and report ahead of time. :) If there is extra time then we can
have Q&A and discussion.
5:15-5:20: Discussion of possible Wiki Loves Earth campaign in the United
States See http://wikilovesearth.org.

Hi folks,
In an effort to make scheduling easier for everyone, I set up an unofficial
public calendar for US Wikimedia events:
http://localendar.com/public/Wikimedia_US
Nice features:
* You can add events as you wish, which will appear on the public calendar
once an admin approves the posts. Feel free to add events from local
affiliates. Please note the location of each event *in the name of the
event*. If an event is online/virtual, you can say "online".
* You can click on an event, which will create a popup that will let you
export the event to your choice of calendar formats.
There's no obligation to post events here, but I hope that this tool will
be convenient for everyone. This is an experiment and comments are welcome.

Hi US Wikimedians,
If you're interested in joining the April 2016 meeting of the US Wikimedia
Consortium, please go here to indicate your scheduling availability:
http://doodle.com/poll/eawc29nn2cfy6age
The meeting will likely be between 30 and 60 minutes long.
We meet via Google Hangouts video. Please note that Google will
automatically limit attendance to the first 10 people to join the meeting.
If this becomes a problem then we can talk with WMF about alternate
solutions for video meetings.
Notes from the meeting will be published for everyone to view afterwards.
Notes from our previous meeting are at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WALRUS/March_2016 and
https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/walrus
Feel free to forward this email to anyone who might want to attend!
