There will be World War II aircraft available for tours at the Museum of Flight this weekend. If anyone would like to join me, preferably with a camera to take photos for Commons, please email me off-list.
Events later this summer that I am planning to attend, camera in hand, are the Arlington Fly-In and Seafair.
Is anyone else planning to organize a Wiknic in Seattle this year? If not, I may boldly set up a sign-up page on English Wikipedia.
I won't personally be doing a lot of formal organizing of events, but I would be glad to have people join me for events that I'm already planning to attend for fun. :)

People were curious how they could support GWOB, and the recent website
hack was mentioned.
If you have Wordpress / PHP security skills, one thing that is needed is
some forensic analysis and cleaning of a Wordpress database.
Another thing that is clearly needed, given that gwob.org is mostly
offline is an update of their Wikipedia page, for those of you that are
(or know!) Wikipedia editors:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geeks_Without_Bounds
It is the first hit on DuckDuckGo and doesn't mention Lisha at all(!),
or much of their more current work that was covered in the talk, and
probably sufficiently referencable for Wikipedia standards.

Written by Peaceray and myself. I won't be surprised if Sage (who was
there in a separate capacity from Cascadia Wikimedians), has something
to add. I'm pretty sure that at least some of what is here will be news
to each of you.

I talked this evening with Felix Nartey
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Nartey) from Ghana and it looks
like their group are pretty far along in arranging to do some
orally-based work with people from indigenous cultures there. However,
the want to use Wikidata to track their content, and on data modeling
they are very much just beginners. I told them that I suspect I am not
the only Cascadia Wikimedian who would be interested in helping them
work out a schema to model the data, since several of us have relevant
skills. This might eventually also be of benefit to us locally as well,
for cultural stuff with ethic groups and tribes/nations in our
geographic area. Not sure all of what this will ultimately entail from
us, but Felix seems rock-solid, so we'd have a strong collaborator on
the other end: I'm pretty sure they can sort out most of what data
they'd want to track, and we'd just have to devise a schema.
Are there others in Cascadia besides just me who'd be interested in
taking this on? Anyone know someone not yet a Wikimedian (or not all
that active) who might find this interesting?

Hello,
I am in Seattle for the Sage Bionetworks Assembly.
<http://sageassembly.org/>
On behalf of Cascadia I will be pitching Wikipedia collaboration to
everyone.
Is anyone free and interested to meet up at any time Monday - Wednesday
April 16-18? Perhaps we could meet some evening at Cafe Allegro. I would do
annual reporting if that still needs to be done.
Sorry for short notice.
Thanks,

Hi Cascadia Wikimedians board members,
As a part of issue the issue of Cascadia Wikimedians reports, I would like
to ask specifically whether CWUG is caught up on filing its reports and
paying money owed to government agencies like the City of Seattle,
Washington State Secretary of State, Washington State Department of Labor
and Industries, and the US Internal Revenue Service.
I think that filing those reports and paying those amounts due is more
urgent than completing WMF reports and completing the public accounting for
CWUG's funds in 2017, because late reports and payments to government
agencies can result in fines or worse consequences such as loss of licenses
and receiving legal consequences for operating an unlicensed organization.
If there is a question about which work to prioritize among (1) reports and
fees due to government agencies, (2) public accounting for CWUG's finances,
(3) reports about CWUG's programs for WMF and the public, and (4) outreach
or content development activities, then I would suggest prioritizing them
in that order.
I realize that I'm no longer on the CWUG board and I'm not currently a
registered member of the organization, but I would like the organization to
survive.
Thanks,

The survey shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes, and is a prerequisite for
us to get grant funding from the Wikimedia Foundation - so your input is
greatly appreciated!
If you haven't heard yet, we're thrilled to announce that WikiConference

Hello Wiki Cascadia,
I wanted to share some news. I have served as Wikipedian in Residence at
Consumer Reports since April 2012. Thanks to Cascadia's own user:llywrch
for writing in 2006 "Wikipedian-in-residence, a proposal
<http://original-research.blogspot.ca/2006/12/wikipedian-in-residence-propos…>",
which I credit as the origin of the creation of this first full-time wiki
job position.
Elsewhere on this list there is discussion about Wiki Cascadia's
organization and development. Normally I like to be a little reserved and
have something to show before making announcements, but since people are
asking about what is next for Wiki Cascadia, I have some news. At the
beginning of March accepted a new job as Wikimedian in Residence at the
Data Science Institute at the University of Virginia. I have some projects
with Consumer Reports which I will continue through 2018 at least, but now
my focus is on Wikidata for the university.
- job announcement
<https://dsi.virginia.edu/people/lane-rasberry/profile>
- profile page <https://dsi.virginia.edu/people/lane-rasberry>
I recognize that I am on the opposite side of the country as Cascadia, and
while my projects at Consumer Reports put me close to Wiki NYC, I grew into
these job roles because of the culture of Cascadia and the collaboration
that I have had with Wiki Cascadia members. Wiki Cascadia and the spirit
which preceded it contributed significantly to the creation of these wiki
jobs and will continue to generate future institutional partnerships
including jobs, media donations, in-kind support, recruitment of individual
organization members and wiki participants, and when the time comes, direct
sponsorship.
In my new role I will be engaging with Wikidata on behalf of the university
and its own partners. In Seattle Mako and Jonathan have organized these
kinds of activities for years, so this kind of activity already has 5+
years of history in Wiki Cascadia.
https://wiki.communitydata.cc/Community_Data_Science_Workshops_(Spring_2015)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle/archive
Other people in Seattle have done other data based projects, like Sage
whose excellent Programs and Events Dashboard provides the communication
metrics which organizations require to justify their wiki engagement, and
Monika, whose cooperation with OCLC has encouraged librarians and
information scientists to explore opportunities to federate Wikimedia
content to all the information available through the connection of
individual concepts to library catalog identifiers. Other people in
Cascadia have other data heavy projects which eventually we will better
document.
Although I think Wikidata partnerships are trendy now and likely to become
more popular, the entire Cascadia region is well positioned to benefit from
a range of interest in Wikimedia projects for all the reasons that this
list's members continue to recognize. If and when there is any organization
in Cascadia that could imagine a Wikidata partnership, then as always, any
program in partnership with Wiki Cascadia and its members has my particular
attention, favor, and gratitude.
Thanks,
