As for archiving/freezing the 2006 site -- I wouldn't complain; there was another rash of autofellatio images today (linked from commons, no less). There's still work that could be done on the proceedings; but preventing new usernames from registering, with a request button for new accounts as Sj suggests, would help quite a bit on the vandalism front. Can this be done?
