I don't understand why Wikimania should have a new site every year. We could be using categories or subpages to organize the annual content.

Just a quick note -- there was a little spate of vandalism on the wikimania2006 site (http://wikimania2006.wikimedia.org) last week. I think it's all cleaned up now, but this is just a reminder that this is still an open wiki
We are better to close/freeze it and archive it? Also [[Wmania:]] can be changed to the current site, not the 2006 one? Or it may cause confusion?
Let's make a Wikimania07: so there's no future confusion... those links should not suddenly break in the future b/c the interwiki list is changed.
Perhaps limit archived sites to existing users when they drop below a few edits a week, with a simple "request an account" link for anyone who wants a new account...
It is high time to redirect Wikimania.wikimedia.org to wikimania2007.wikimedia.org. People need to start planning their submissions and journeys to the conference this summer! Er, Brion....? :)
As for archiving/freezing the 2006 site -- I wouldn't complain; there was another rash of autofellatio images today (linked from commons, no less). There's still work that could be done on the proceedings; but preventing new usernames from registering, with a request button for new accounts as Sj suggests, would help quite a bit on the vandalism front. Can this be done?
As for separate sites -- it makes a nice clean division between each year's conference. Even if it's a good idea to have one site, though, I'm not volunteering to merge the three conference sites together at this point :)
