I think organized translations only make sense if there are significant amounts of speakers/attendees with a certain language background that do not speak sufficient English. When you organize Wikimania in an English-speaking country, I don't think it would be very efficient to organize translations centrally (on a case by case basis you could ask a volunteer to help out a speaker), in Argentina and Egypt this was of course different (resp. for Spanish and Arab), and in Taiwan it might have helped to have Chinese translators.
So, I guess it could depend on the local situation and what attendees you expect. Edward, how many people do you currently expect from which countries? (rough estimate)?

As currently stands, our budget can't cover this. If someone can figure out a way of doing it for cheap or free, we may be able to?

Simultranslation can be a lot of fun.
We looked into simultranslators a number of years; Buenos Aires had a complete solution with headsets for attendees. Sometimes we've had a translator sit next to a presenter. This should be a standard option for organizers to consider any year.

Hi,
Would there be any possibility ro have simultaneous translation at the
glam
podium discussion? The person whom we asked from the swiss national
library
refused to take part as his English would not be up to a level allowing
him
to sufficiently contribute. This would be German - English.
Best regards,
Rupert
