Dear Wikimanians,
I'm sorry I shan't be with you this year, Washington was such a blast!
Had I been there, I would have given a talk about the Voice Intro Project:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Voice_intro_project
which invites the subjects of Wikipedia articles to contribute a short (about ten seconds) recording of their spoken voice, so that we know what they sound like, and how they pronounce their won name.
They can do this in any language in which they feel proficient, with a separate file for each.
Please inform your fellow Wikimanians.
And if there are notable people at Wikimania (keynote speakers or attendees) please try to ask them to contribute. There's a suggested script, and examples, on the Commons page, and you can record them on a mobile phone (just try to find a quiet corner, with no background noise), or they can upload or email a file later.
Thank you.
