OpenPlaques: appeal for contributions

The fab, open-source, OpenPlaques website only has six entries for Washington DC: http://openplaques.org/places/us/areas/washington_dc (and needs photos for four of them). It would be great if folk at Wikimania could add to them. What to do on Heathrow?

Hello fellow Wikipedians, I need some advise from London folks. I will be flying through London Heatrow to D.C this coming Saturday but I am going to have a 6-hours long connecting time there to kill. Could anyone tell what can I do on Heathrow for that amount of time besides eating and shopping? Is there anything that I could visit nearby? Attendees eligible for VWP must register on the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) website. Those who are traveling with a visa are not required to register for ESTA. Dear Wikimania attendees, The Wikimania Google Opening Reception on July 11 at 7:00 PM will be an exciting evening where we all will mingle with other Wikimania attendees and invited guests from cultural, educational, government, and international institutions and embassies. Your conference badge will serve as your admission ticket to the reception. The badge can be picked up during business hours from the registration desk at George Washington University from the start of the Hackathon on July 10 through 5:00 PM on July 11. If you will not arrive to Washington, DC in time to pick up your badge but would still like to attend the reception, please email events(a)wikimediadc.org with your name and affiliation, and we will make sure you will be to attend. And please remember to add your name on the event's page, as having an accurate headcount will help us with preparations: http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Google_Reception Please note that all guests musts go through Library of Congress security to enter the venue, and, as such, we strongly suggest that you leave large bags and laptops at your hotel/hostel/home. QRpedia is a Wikimedia UK project, using QR codes to link to Wikipedia articles in GLAMs and other historic locations, then serving them to the user in accessible, mobile-friendly format in their preferred language. It's free to use, anywhere. On Saturday afternoon, 14 July, several Wikipedians with experience of implementing QRpedia around the word, will be presenting a workshop 'QRpedia and you'. Whether you're new to QRpedia or have read about it and want to get started using it, you'll be most welcome. We'll be in Workshop V, room 309, at 2.30pm. Arriving in DC on 4th July; also paging DC birders

Hi, I asked this on the wiki, but got no response; so I'm hoping someone here can advise me. I'll be arriving in DC early, to be a tourist for a few days, and my plane lands at 6pm local time on 4th July. As it's a holiday, what sort of service will be running, to get me to Hostelling International? Also, I'm a birder, and would like to see my first US birds during those pre-Wikimania days Are there any local Wikimedians who are also birders (or who know any), and who could spare an hour or two to accompany me to a suitable open space, and help me out with basic ID? -- Andy Mabbett @pigsonthewing http://pigsonthewing.org.uk
