Subject: [Wikimediauk-l] Wikimania 2021 Scholarship Grants- Apply now!
To: <wikimediauk-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Dear members of the Wikimedia Community,
This year for Wikimania 2021, Wikimedia UK is delighted to announce that we
will be awarding scholarship grants to several individuals within our
community. The aim of these grants is to help facilitate the participation
in this year's conference, providing those who need it with financial and
technical support so they can immerse themselves in the Wikimania
experience. Participants do not need to be a member of Wikimedia UK, and we
encourage all those interested to apply.
In order to be considered for a scholarship award, participants need to
complete* this application, <http://bit.ly/2VKbzlD>* highlighting how they
intend to use the grant and their main reasons for wanting to attend this
year's conference.
With Wikimania fast approaching, we are kindly asking all those who wish to
apply to do so soon. In addition, if you know of anyone who would greatly
benefit from this grant, please share this with them so that they too can
have a chance of being considered. Good luck!
Best regards,
George

Dear Community Members,
Wikimania 2021 is around the corner, kickstarting with Hackathon this
Friday, August 13, and we just can’t wait. We would like to share some
reminders and important updates with you.
Registration
We are nearing 2500 registrants already! That’s bigger than any in-person
Wikimania. We want to ensure everyone’s safety and as such, will be closing
registration on Thursday, August 12 @ 23:59 UTC. If you haven’t done so
already, please register now
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Registration>. Registering will
allow you to receive updates from the organizers, immerse in the virtual
platform, and most importantly, interact with other participants and host
sessions.
Attendee Information
And speaking of registering, we hope to share participant information on
Monday, including links to Remo
<https://diff.wikimedia.org/2021/08/03/virtual-wikimania-2021-finding-your-w…>,
our virtual platform space, and other important information to prepare you
for Wikimania 2021.
Volunteers
We are still looking for volunteers
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Volunteer> for various roles. If
you are interested, sign up to help. There are different roles and your
help is greatly appreciated.
Digital Resources
As with every Wikimania, and even more so a virtual one, we have
awesome digital
assets <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Resources> to share with
you so you can use and share on yourself. Want to print a t-shirt for you
and your friends? Need social media posts or cool backgrounds, we got you
covered.
Hackathon
We will be kickstarting Wikimania 2021 with an all-day Hackathon
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Hackathon>! Please make sure to
register your session on the Hackathon schedule and join us for a day full
of collaborative work around the clock and around the world!
Community Village + Unconference
After the Hackathon, we have 4 full days of programming starting at
different times each day. As with every Wikimania, we will also have a
Community
Village <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Community_Village>.
There are 140 tables available where you can share information for people
to see, and you don’t even have to be there. Finally, we will also be
hosting an Unconference space where any attendee can host a session and
gather with up to 20 other attendees. Reserve your Unconference space now
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Unconference>.
Best Wishes,
Winnie Kabintie (User:Ms_Kabintie
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ms_Kabintie>), on behalf of the
Wikimania 2021 Core Organizing Team.
Dear Community Members,
As promised, we have published a series of posts on Diff with key information

There you will find information about navigating your way around the
virtual space Remo and the program, technical solutions, measures to make
the experience more welcoming and inclusive, accessing the amazing content
during (and after) the events … and so much more. Make sure to read them.

Best Wishes,
Winnie Kabintie (User:Ms_Kabintie
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ms_Kabintie>), on behalf of the
Wikimania 2021 Core Organizing Team.
Dear Community Members,
We are excited to share the program
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Program> for this year’s
Wikimania with you! This was a huge effort as we received an unexpectedly
high number of submissions and as much as possible, we wanted to include
all of them. We created two whole new tracks just for this — in addition to
the original two, the plenary, and the Unconference and on-demand tracks.
We thank you all for your patience and understanding as we bring virtual
Wikimania live.
The program table is a work in progress and over the next few days, we will
edit and build it out with more information.
We will share a series of blog posts tomorrow on Diff
<https://diff.wikimedia.org/tag/wikimania-2021/>with event specifics and
technical solutions for this first-ever virtual edition of Wikimania. All
registered participants will also receive specific guidance by email in the
next few days.
Upcoming Office Hours and Remo Practice Days
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2021:Organizers>: Starting Tuesday,
August 3 at 10 AM UTC, we would also like to invite you to join us at our
upcoming Office Hours and practice days to walk through our event platform
Remo and answer any question you may have around the platform and how to
use it. 5 other opportunities are available to hop on Remo and ask us any
questions. Please check for a time and day that works for you.
Best Wishes,
Winnie Kabintie (User:Ms_Kabintie
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ms_Kabintie>), on behalf of the
Wikimania 2021 Core Organizing Team.
