Hi,
The BBC have been in contact with us at Wikimedia UK about the
possibility of them getting access to some Wikimania footage. I quote:
"We are expecting to film with Jimmy Wales later in the year, but we
were really hoping to film at Wikimania. Unfortunately, due to
schedules, we simply can't get a crew to the event. And so, it
occurred to us that, rather than lose this quintessentially Wikipedian
moment, we could - in the spirit of our shared open and collaborative
goals - ask some of the attending Wikipedians to shoot some footage
for us, for release on an open platform (Kultura) to allow all parties
to use the footage under creative commons."
They ask interested parties to get in contact either via their web
form here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/digitalrevolution/contactus.shtml or
via me/other WMUK board members. (E-mail me and I'll forward it on to
them, or alternatively, if you're in the UK email me and I can give
you the organiser's phone number.)
Thanks,
Tom
Could someone tell us what the rules are for photography of statues,
buildings etc in Argentina? I'm sure I'm not the only Wikimania attendee
doing a bit of tourism here and it would be nice to know if we could load up
photos providing they were taken in a Public place..

Dear friends: this is an update of the situation regarding the
influenza A pandemic and the organization of Wikimania.

Three weeks before Wikimania, and three weeks after our last
statement, the Organizing Committee felt it prudent to provide
Wikimania attendees with updated information on the impact of the
influenza A(H1N1) pandemic declared by WHO.
Since July 12 the situation has been largely stabilized. The
exceptional preventive measures put in place were lifted, such as the
suspension of some public events and having brought forward the
holiday period. All schools in Buenos Aires have restarted activities
normally this week. [1].
Health authorities follow the situation closely, even if it shows
signs of improvement. Since the week of July 6 the number of
consultations has started to drop [2]. On August 5 the Health minister
of the Buenos Aires Province stated that there have not been any signs
of a renewed outbreak of the pandemic and that the situation in public
hospitals is less delicate [3].
The federal Health minister, Juan Manzur, highlighted on the same day
a "really important diminution" of the influenza A(H1N1) virus impact,
including the number of consultations and confirmed positives [4]. He
emphasized that the health system continues under alert, working on
preventive measures and the detection of new cases. In Argentina, the
state guarantees due medical treatment to anyone presenting symptoms
of influenza A(H1N1).
We believe that attendees can be less worried about the situation in
Buenos Aires. While we will take into account all necessary
precautions and will provide all of the recommended hygiene items, the
development of Wikimania 2009 is beyond doubt.

in Uruguay after Wikimania. We are planning to depart on August 30 and
return to Buenos Aires ca Sep 3. If anyone wants to join us, please contact

«video recording will be organized by CafeLUG»
(http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2009/Bids/Buenos_Aires#Technical_f…)
Will video (or at least audio) recordings of all presentations be
available after the event? Previous Wikimanias were pretty deficient in
this regard.
Recordings are very useful to people who can't attend the event (and for
"archival purposes", too).
Thanks,
Nemo
