The question regards customs. In the event that people don't clear customs, or if customs delays them for a couple hours, will the ground team have plans in place to handle that?

Can you be a little more specific? I am not sure I understand your question.

when I arrive at alex, should I go there directly or should I go to
the bib 1st to get a confirmation to get the room or what?
because I rgistered online, and I don't know whom should I talk to
when I arrive or where

Hi all,
I would like to ask this question here, hoping for a useful answer :)
I would like to ask some information about hotels and trains and
reservations.
I will arrive the 16th very early in the morning in Cairo, and would
like a cheap hotel near the airport or main train station (assuming
there is a good connection to that station from the airport) to sleep
a few hours *before* I head to Alexandria by train.
* Does anyone know what ho(s)tel would be good for this? (note: I
arrive 2 am at the air port, and just want 5'ish hour of sleep, and
being tired, it should be very good to find :) )
* Do I have to make reservations, and what will it roughly cost me?
* Do I have to make reservations for the fast train service to
Alexandria from Cairo, is it hard to get on board, how do I get
tickets?
* How far is it from the Alexandria station to the dorms?
* What time can we drop off stuff in the dorms?
After Wikimania, I would like to travel around a bit, going after two
days or so to Luxor by the night train. First I want to stay one or
two nights in Cairo.
* Does anyone know a ho(s)tel that is good for this? (not too
expensive, not per se next to the station)
* Again: do we have to make reservations?
* For the night train, do we have to make reservations?
We would like to stay in Luxor for one or two days, and one or two
days in Aswan.
*Again, is there a nice ho(s)tel here, price, reservations?
Thanks a lot, and I owe you a stroopwafel if you can help me out!
Best regards,
Lodewijk

Aude,
Your tip is really great and helpful for first timers like me. I know it is summer there right now but can you give us an idea what is the current temperature there? Is humidity high?
thanks,
Leah

I would bring both long/half-sleeve blouses or shirts, as well as short sleeves. For shopping (dealing with the bargaining and people) and other situations, I like to be more conservative in dress. But, overall, things are not as conservative (long sleeves only) for dress as I assumed before I left.

Aude -- this is super, super helpful. Thank you so much for all the
tips, especially the phrases and advice on what to wear! There's
nothing like the voice of experience :)

Hi everyone,
Is there a place on the wiki for people to ask questions and
brainstorm about upcoming individual talks and sessions? If not, can
someone help me figure out the best place to start a page? I would
like to be able to collect questions for the library panel ahead of
time if possible.
thanks!

Hey all,
Kaltura - who are kind benefactors of Wikimania this year, wanted to
pass on the following invite to those who are participating in Wikimania
- or those who may not be able to.
They've got two lonely videos on there right now. Consider uploading
your travel videos for some open-source collaboration/editing. Add as
many other videos as you can come across while you're in Alexandria. If
you can't make it, why not edit a video or add some reflections or views
of your own?
(PS, freshly blogged at
http://blog.wikimedia.org/2008/07/08/kaltura-and-wikimania-08-collaborative…)
Thanks!
Jay Walsh, Head of Communications
Here's the invitation from Lisa Bennet, Director of Public Relations and
Marketing, Kaltura

Hi Everyone,
As Wikimania is right around the corner, we’ve added a new great way to
share information about the event. I would like to invite you to the
Wikimania Video Site where you can create collaborative videos. The site
already has some videos where people can add their expectations for the
event or share why they can’t join us this year, and there will be
computer stations at Wikimania for attendees to add videos and pictures
in real-time from Alexandria. Hopefully, it will be a great resource for
people that could not be there in person to see the highlights, and for
the attendees to document the event.
Check it out at:
http://www.kaltura.com/devwiki/index.php/Wikimania_Video_Site
The site is hosted on the Kaltura devwiki and uses the collaborative
video technology from Kaltura, which the Foundation partnered with late
last year to explore adding videos to Wikipedia and other projects.
You’re invited to share your experiences from Wikimania, play with the
technology, and provide your feedback.
Dear Wikimania Team
I found out today that the Band Wust El Balad will have a presentation
in The Alexandria Library on July 17th,
Is this presentation inside the program of The Wikimania event?
